assault is usually the apprehension of unwanted contact. battery is the acutal touching.
an battery doesn't have to be any violent physical contact. in some cases you can be charged with assault without even touching the person.

Yeah, with brothers it is common. Your parents probably overreacted, but how was your attitude when they confronted you about it. My guess is you probably were a little belligerent at the time, right? You probably should have just apoligized and told them, you didn't mean to hurt your brother. On the other hand if it is very common for you to act out in violence, I suggest getting some therapy and moving out.
And how old is the brother that you hit?
All else aside, threats like that don't just come out of the blue. There has to be a history of fighting and aggression for most parents to escalate to the point where they're threatening to call the cops.

PS: 24 is too fscking old to still be hitting siblings. I owned a house at that age.

No, I am not a common violent person. My attitude is not beligerant, I was very calm. I think that my attitude is too apethetic, thats what they have a problem with. I dont go to church anymore, and they dont like that i spend most of my money on snowboarding rather than saving it.
Yes, I realize that, and I was pretty much thinking along the same lines at the time. I just wanted to live there for like 3 more months so i could get my degree and get a job. i was mostly annoyed that they would kick me out and cause so much resentment rather than just waiting for me to finish college and move out on my own. Just seems like a dumb decision on their part, I mean they put 23 years into someone, then they just blow it by acting like asses, but thats just how i feel right now, maybe my feelings will change.

I have a friend who is a great guy but very insecure. He was talking with a guy in a professional club once and I was hanging out. He kept mentioning how "back when he was 25 things were so different". He was only 26 at the time. Sure there was a few sweeping political reforms in that year, but he could have just said that (Bankruptcy laws, Entitlement reform...). The guy asked him how old he was, which let me tell you was kind of awkward after my friend said that stuff. I just kept my mouth shut about it though.The guy is a lot less insecure about himself now and is really making it on his own (he got a new job, a girlfriend, he moved out of his folks place...). But it was a little sad having to watch him try so hard in front of people sometimes.
