^ I don't have a problem even if the developer recommended 980 Tri-SLI and 5960X as long as the tech was mind-blowing. The issue with AC Unity are low polygon character models in game, low polygon objects, broken shadow/lighting model (missing shadows/pre-baked instead of dynamic real time global illumination) and still primitive AI/Physics model. For these reasons, asking for minimum 680/7970 + 2500k is shocking. Those GPUs will surely run Witcher 3, a much better looking game.

While textures will be improved, it's impossible for PC to have fixed the broken shadow/lighting model and address the issue of low polygon NPCs/objects in the game as that requires a complete overhaul of the game/game engine.

Why do you keep accusing the developer of these things, when they aren't true to begin with?

First off, the lighting and shadow model isn't broken. The game supports dynamic shadows, and I'm sure it has dynamic lighting as well for dynamic objects..

It's not uncommon for game engines to support both static and dynamic lights together at the same time. Static lighting can potentially look far superior to dynamic lighting, because it's already computed.

Also it's a fact that the game has dynamic shadows. You can see them in the trailer! As for the low polygon models, anyone that has seen the NVidia PC trailer knows that's not true.

If the NPCs and objects were low polygon as you claim, they would look blocky, but they don't. And one thing I find most impressive about AC Unity, is that even the no name NPCs in the crowds have cloth simulation.

This is Ubi Soft we're taking about here . . . a third of the game will be broken on the PC upon release. Guaranteed.

Maybe, maybe not.

The game isn't even out yet, and Ubisoft has already two patches..

While some people will see day 1 patches as a bad thing, I see it as a good thing.
While you have to have the code locked down by a certain date to get it ready for release( manufacturing, distribution etc) the fact that you know that there is still issues and want to fix them is a good thing, unlike with AC4

It shows that they are aware of some issues that would affect a good portion of PC users and want to make this release as smooth as possible due to the issues that appeared with AC4 and WatchDogs. I had issue with multiplayer/uplay intergration in both games, but not the main gameplay/performance

I was this "" close to pre-ordering, (partially I wanted those extra missions hate missing some bits of it... pre-order dlc should die..... any way that's a different topic),
it based on what I have seen so far but the fact that DA3 is coming out this week I am holding off and will probably try to pick up one of those Nvidia Bundle codes for cheap off ebay.

The other thing is too, maybe what had to be implemented in these patches, specifically for SLI / GFX issue, may needed the new driver that dropped today well.

Both those patches "fix" graphics and UI issues. BOTH. The second also fixes input. And the game isn't even out yet. Great start Ubisoft! It doesn't work out the box! Nope no how.

I think we can all agree it would be great if it were bug free six months ago, but crapping on patch fixes is irrational.

To all the Ubisoft haters out there, I hate to break it to you but the game runs pretty damn good according to the reports of those that are playing the PC version :D

Running through Paris, with the crowds and all - I get 45-60 fps with FXAA and everything else maxed out. Some odd stuttering though, might be loading..

Runs better than Black Flag guys. lol On my machine.. at least.

TXAA in Paris = Death -- 8fps. lol So Paris is definitely alot more demanding than any prologue sequence.
Source.

And here are some 4K shots on ultra settings. The texture quality looks very good for an open world game of this magnitude! Only the hair quality isn't too good, but hair is really difficult to do properly unless you're using something like TressFX or NVidia hairworks:

The first two pics aren't half bad, other than that fugly hair. Last pic, look at the door. That door and door handle look like a PS2 game. Flat and crappy. The people look like they're floating on the floor. I'm sure those two situations are present throughout the entire game. What's so next gen about that? Oh I know, the city is so big, it's bound to have situations like that, yadda yadda. What's with the creepy obsession with making Ubisoft look good?

I'll post how it runs on my 780 Ti GHz + 4770 but that NeoGAF thread is retarded. Seriously. You obviously won't be able to up PCSS and TXAA and every other option for a smooth 60FPS on any single GPU even at 1200p. The amount of stuff going on will bring any card to its knees.

And whats with your creepy obsession with trying to fling dirt at Ubisoft every chance you get? Did they beat you up and steal your lunch in school or something? Why are you even in this thread to begin with, since you obviously don't like the game or the developer..

Your silly comment about the door handle just drives home what I'm saying..

Or maybe you're just ignorant about how multiplatform game development works? A combination of both if I had to guess..

Anyway, the game isn't even out yet. A day one patch is supposed to fix some graphical anomalies, so maybe that door handle you're obsessing about will be corrected.

The hair looks like hell. It's hard to do, though. It's sad that even as good as games look now certain things still look like crap, such as the door, such as the lack of curvature around the door handle, etc.

I think the game will be good, though. I plan on buying it tomorrow.

I believe the first "review" posted by the OP is by a person who's never played the game and he just made up the review and posted screen grabs he stole. I expect the game will average somewhere in the 80's as most of these seem to. Not fantastic, but reliable. Generally just simple fun.

Yep, hair is really difficult to do without dedicated technology. It's too bad this game doesn't support NVidia's Hairworks. It would have been a great candidate.

Yeah tell me about it. NeoGaf has a bunch of computer illiterate morons that shouldn't even own a gaming PC..

"Why I can't get 240 FPS on my GTX 460? I know, Ubicrap didn't optimize it worth a damn that's why!"

Not all of them are like that of course, but a bunch of them are drama queens that think if they can't max everything out @ 120 FPS, the game isn't optimized properly or something.

Hmm. Steam for $70, or Uplay for $60 (-20% more from GMG). Where is your purchase coming from?

Mine is from Origin so I won't be able to start downloading till Tuesday at 2:00 am. I think Steam is allowing preloads though..

Gotta love GMG. I dont know when the last time i bought direct from steam or uplay was. $47.99 :D. Pre loading now, and since GMG is UK its after midnight. Might be playable now, thought I doubt it. Will find out in about 12GB.

How big is the download?

I don't meet the min requirements, waiting for performance reports on hardware similar to mine and reviews. If it's not disastrous I'll get it soon. Spent a lot of money on games recently, what's the cheapest price keys are going for?

Download is 42GB, but it'll let me start playing after about 7.5GB down. Just about there now.

Thanks. I can fit that in my bandwidth cap, just need to watch low res netflix for the remainder of this billing cycle

What are your specs? Post some impressions here. If you have an AMD card, a beta driver for Unity is out.

I am running a 4790k at stock with 2 x 7970 in CF with a slight OC. I just hopped out of the game to grab the new drivers - was pretty sure that CF wasn't enabled on first run.

A clear graphical update from what I did see though. More to come.

I played the tutorial before I hit the end of what Uplay pre-loaded for me. A few thoughts

- Graphics are a general improvement but not as much as I was expecting. Textures got the bulk of the work from the dev team I think because generally the shapes don't cut the mustard, relatively speaking of course. All around an improvement over Black Flag.

- Chop chop chop chop chop chop chop. So much chop. Might be my CF config &/or a non-patched version of the game (due to pre-load), but really disappointed. I didn't bother to check framerates. I imagine they weren't terrible, but they felt terrible.

- The movement system, climbing, etc. feels very different. They spent a lot of time on this, and I didn't get to use it much. From what I did use though tweaks are needed.

- A few bugs here and there, including some stuff that should definitely not have made it past QC - most notably if you stop free-running up a wall you can't start again, meaning you have to go back down to start going up again. I'm sure this will be fixed asap, if not already.

- Story initial impressions are very positive. The tutorial grabbed my attention - when does that ever happen?! Me want more.

- MSI Afterburner says my 7970s didn't hit 100%. Concerning but I'm not sure.

- When it started up the first time, it was auto-set to 24hz. Changed to 60hz. Also turned everything up to max, just to see how it would go.

Once the game is fully downloaded I'll play that over again just to see if anything is different. I'm sure lots will be though based on that experience. Once the bugs are out, this will be one hell of a game.
