I disliked AC1, loved AC2 and Brotherhood, didn't finish Revelations, and am disliking AC3 (glad I only paid $11 on steam). I'll wait until a big sale for AC4, and have to finish Revelations some day.

AC4 isn't showing up on my Uplay yet... I figured it would show up at it's release, but nothing so far. Did anyone else get the game with the nvidia bundle?

Decided I wouldn't risk it on a pre-order given that every Ubisoft port for the last few years has had massive problems when launched on the PC (the Assassin's Creed games especially). I was hoping to see some reviews this morning, but there's still nothing; everyone is focused on the PS4 and Xbone. Any early adopters want to post a review of the performance when they can, so the rest of us know whether the typical Ubisoft port flaws are present or not?

From the feedback at Guru3d, it looks like the game runs well with the latest NVidia drivers.. If you have AMD though, I don't know how it runs.

Geforce guide is up. Game will apparently support GPU accelerated PhysX in a future update! 🙂

I bought the gold edition, but I won't be able to start playing till Thursday..

I thought that I would note that if you prefer buying through Amazon (you have gift cards, cash back offers, or whatever), Amazon does sell codes for both Steam and uPlay. Just make sure you select the right option (Standard-Steam or Gold-Steam vs. Standard-uPlay or Gold-uPlay). I bought the Steam Gold Edition last night, and it registered fine.

Oh, and before some wise guy makes the remark... yes, I realize that you still technically go through a cut-down version of uPlay with the Steam version. 😛 However, I prefer Steam for managing my games!

Just gonna say that Black Flag is a huge step after AC III, BUT there's a huge miss on this game, the future part is severely lacking, not that I didn't like Edward Story even tho at times it felt timely detached, but the Abstergo parts were so few and between and uninteresting that it damaged the game overall story. You would think that by now Ubisoft would have think this tro, that I personally don't mind early iteration of AC since it usually has a interesting historical story, yet they simply can't hit the nail in the head with the Future counterpart since AC 1.

To be honest, I've hated every single "future" moment in every Assassin's Creed game ever. I don't play the game for the intrigue of poorly written conspiracy plots that transcend time and space, I play it to climb interesting architecture, leap off and simultaneously stab two people in the face on the way down. If the Abstergo parts were completely removed, the games would be better. So anything that limits the nonsensical future conspiracy bits is a welcome change.

Exactly, I can't stand the future stuff that has been in the AC games. I'd much rather have a game without that stuff and have fun in the historical locales.

Yeah here's the problem with the franchise, its future arc is the important premise, it has so much potential but Ubisoft is failing horribly in realizing that potential, nobody likes it because its simply not enjoyable and poorly written compared to the historical story arc, that's what bothers me with this franchise, the premise is amazing 2 stories running simultaneously and intertwine tro time, so much potential yet completely unused.

Damn, really missing the FIOS 85mbps down I had in L.A. Measly 20mbps in Indiana with cable. Would have been nice if uplay did a pre-dl a couple days before.

Does TXAA have the disgusting blur in this game? I haven't downloaded the game yet so I was wondering.

I couldn't detect any blur with TXAA in Batman Arkham Origins, so I was hoping NVidia had squashed that problem.

Other than the blur, TXAA is great technology, better than all the other forms of AA.

Wish I could say it performs well, but it does not. At least not when you consider the recommended stats for this game vs. what I am running it on.

My setup is as follows:

Intel Core i7 3770K @4.2Ghz (recommended is a core i5 2400s @2.5Ghz)
GTX780Ti (recommended is a gtx 470)
16GB ram (recommended is 4GB)
Windows 7 Ultimate
Latest nvidia driver (released today)

Regardless of what I tweak, I'm seeing ~40FPS-50FPS, which means that most of the time the in game vsync limits to 30FPS - resulting in a bit of a choppy mess. And for the love of me I cannot figure out WHY that is the case. IMO far cry 3 was/is prettier (sometimes drastically so), and lord knows it runs a hell of a lot better. Turning vsync off seems to fix the issue (somewhat), but the tearing is so bad I felt like I had to leave it on. Going to try forcing vsync through the driver tomorrow to see if it helps the situation.

Sidenote - the controls in this round of AC seem especially wonky. I've played all the AC games, and in this one it doesn't feel like I'm controlling a pirate turned assassin. Rather, it feels like I'm controlling a drunken bar wench who has an uncanny desire, nay, need to grab every goddamn object in sight and try to scale it like blackbeard's main sail.

Seriously, the controls are pretty muddy and can be damn frustrating this go round. Might be tied to the frame rate issues . . . so we'll see if they are sorted out at the same time.

Oh, and don't believe the reviews that say the game tutorial isn't hours long. Its more action packed than the one in AC3, but it still takes a good long time to get through everything. Especially if you get sidetracked doing the open world stuff early on.

All that said, the game is a TON of fun. And some of the models are downright gorgeous. The ship models in particular are jaw dropping. Someone spent an awful lot of time developing them.

Given that I got the game for free with my video card, I'm having a lot of fun with it. But if I had to pay for the game, I would probably be a bit upset.

^ I'm experiencing the issue as you, but I feel quite relieved that at least an nvidia user is experiencing a similar issue as someone using amd so their seems to be a problem.

Not sure why the performance issues, I personally am running it at 1600p with a Gtx 670 OC, and with everything maxed out it never dips below 40Fps , the average is around 41-42 fps on land and 50 fps on sea, that 780ti should be trashing this game.

Assassin's Creed 4 is very addictive, and gorgeous graphiclly.

I've only had it installed for a little over 12 hours, but I've played 2 + hours so far.

(This pesky need known as sleep interrupted my game play).

It runs surprisingly well on my GTX770 4 GB.

Further to my prior post - forcing vsync in the driver and turning the in game vsync off seems to address the frame rate issue. Thank goodness, as the game is a ton of fun.

Controls are still muddy though. At least IMO.

I'll try the vysnc fix tonight. I am having the same issue. In game v-sync caps the fps at 30, if I turn v-sync off the screen tearing is ridiculous. I tried lowering some settings to medium on my GTX 780, but looks like it's just a buggy in game vsync setting.

Thanks Sho'Nuff for the tip.
