Assassin's Creed 2 Info coming out

Queasy

First there was the teaser trailer followed by a teaser trailer analysis at Gametrailers.com.

Now Joystiq has a picture of the new assassin on the cover of the next Game Informer.

Other rumored details have supposedly been leaked in early copies of the next Game Informer. ScrewAttack says the main character is Ezio Auditore de Firenze, a nobleman of Florence from 1476. Ezio is yet another genetic predecessor of Desmond's (y'know, the annoying guy that doesn't kill people?). You'll supposedly be able to swim and access a gliding machine at DaVinci's workshop. And most excitingly of all, you'll play through more mission types.

edit: More rumored details

- You'll have a ton of new weapons to choose from including an axe, a hammer, a mace, a spear, 2 different sword types, a spear axe, and 2 smaller blades
- You CAN swim
- Da Vincis workshop is in the game
- Locations include Saint Marks Basilica, The Grand Canal, The Little Canal, and the Rialto bridge.
- The game opens in 1476, Altair is from 1191
- So you do indeed play as a new ancestor of Altair / Desmond
-You will see the countryside of Tuscany
- The "Auditore" family is mentioned
- The main characters name is Ezio Auditore de Firenze
- He is a nobleman of Florence
- Big characters are in the game including Machiavelli, Caterina Sofrza, and Lorenzo de Medici
- YOU DO INDEED GLIDE on Da Vincis flying machine.
- Game will feature a new notoriety system that governs how enemy soldiers and people will treat you.
- You can disarm enemies and use their own weapons against them this time.
- Each weapon has a special move.
- 16 unique mission types.
- No more ease dropping or pick pocketing missions.
- If you get beat up to much you will need to see a street side doctor to regain full strength.
- Hidden objects (like flags in the first one) are there to uncover but this time if you track them down you will get in-game bonuses that make it worth your time.
- Items include, flags, statues, and gold coins and more that isnt mentioned.
- New enemy types with unique attitudes and weaknesses are present in the game. Archers are mentioned, as well as elite enemies, dagger wielders, "Brutish" armored troops with heavy armor and 2 handed swords and axes, and an intelligent halberd enemy will probe hiding places with their weapons if they think you're near by.
- While hiding in a hay bail you can assassinate people this time, but it may expose your position.
- You can still climb towers and ride horses
- The Lorendo de Medici assassination attempt is in the game.
- There is now a night and day sequence in the game.
- 240 people are working on this title.

edit 2: New Teaser Trailer (4/16)

is another feature "every mission is exactly the same and the most repetitive thing imaginable" with a dash of "you will enjoy jumping from buildings for 15 minutes then sell this game!"

Thats a pretty dynamite setting for a game. I agree about Ezio sticking out like a sore thumb..why not do a bit of hitman style costume gameplay? The DaVinci aspect is a neat idea too.

Got my copy of Game Informer in the mail yesterday and read the article on AC2. It's sounding very cool because they've included a lot of historical events in the game like various family feuds and assassinations that happened in that time period of Italy on top of the historical figures like Da Vinci.

In addition to the 16 unique mission types, the game is supposed to have 200 missions overall but they mix them up in a way so as not to get too repetitive. You may start out in an escort mission which evolves into a chase mission which evolves into an assassination mission. You don't go back to a central bureau repeatedly like you did in the original.

I'm stoked about this game, I hope it has some replay value though, the first game give you pretty much no reason whatsoever to play through the game again (which is true of many games of that style). Same with Prince of Persia.

AC1 was a game that was technically very well put together and looked great. It was just in dire need of a gameplay overhaul.

If they take to heart the legitimate complaints from the 1st one and improve the next version it could be a very fun game to play.

I thought the very open world and concept of AC1 was incredible. But as many have stated, it was essentially the same mission over and over and over again with a new skill each go-round. Mix it up and add depth to the gameplay and it will be a great seller.

Yeah, reading the article it seemed like that's what they are striving for. They addressed the shortfalls of AC1 and are trying to add depth and variability to AC2 while keeping the stuff that works and getting rid some of the stuff that gamers complained about.

what do you mean by "technically very well put together" ?

i disagree because the game had a ton of screen tearing, felt buggy as hell, and the fighting engine was a joke.

I really liked AC 1.

One thing I disliked about AC1 and other games do it also. Is when going to a new area/town/city the npc guards seem to automaticlly know you and start attacking even if you hadn't done anything yet.

That was another one of the things addressed in the article. In AC2, you'll build notoriety in each town as you go on. The more notoriety you get, the more likely you'll be attacked on sight. But there are supposed to be ways of reducing your notoriety by (I think) bribes or killing certain people.
