Why would I turn 180 degrees? If Assange has material on Trump then I do indeed hope he releases it. This isn't a partisan issue it's a good governance and transparency issue.

I suspect you would, however I came back to delete that comment, it’s a low blow.
I apologize

Apology accepted although one was not really needed. If anything Assange and a lot of of leaks right now about current admin would benefit the U.S. far more now than benefit he has provided previously (which in the case of the killing of civilians was already a large amount). I'll admit not all the things he's leaked over the years have been to the national or world benefit but overall he and Wikileaks have been an overwhelming force for good and transparency.

This is a good day for everyone. Assange and Wikileaks have been an obvious foreign intelligence asset for years, actively spreading propaganda and disinformation. It's sad too, as at one point Wikileaks was a great organization. I hope someday the world creates another one to fulfill the mission of Wikileaks before it was corrupted.

As for Assange himself he's going to prison for a long time I suspect, something he richly deserves.

Problem is that Assange is/was partisan as fuck plus he let himself be a willingful idiot as Putins sock puppet.
Cause Assange has a gigantic ego, the rest of the world has to suffer ... Fuck that guy,

I supported him when he was leaking stuff that hurt Dubya and didn't suddenly change my tune when he leaked stuff that hurt the Obama admin.

What, specifically, does he deserve a long prison sentence for? Whose asset is he?

Here's a good Twitter thread to remind us of the trash that Wikileaks has become:

Those are all horrible things, but no worse than misleading the American public on WMD in Iraq or pumping the Russia conspiracy theories.

Wikileaks is obviously a conduit for Russian intelligence to launder their information through, that much is obvious to anyone with common sense.

The 2016 election aside, look at Wikileaks' hysterical response to the Panama Papers or their curious absence of any leaks about the Russian government despite it being one of the most corrupt on earth. (or, you know, Julian Assange's paid position on Russia's state propaganda network)

Those are all horrible things, but no worse than misleading the American public on WMD in Iraq or pumping the Russia conspiracy theories.

Russia conspiracy theories? Are you spending too much time reading nuts like Glenn Greenwald?

Regardless, that's whataboutism. Wikileaks was knowingly lying to their own audience so they have zero credibility anymore. The website should be disbanded and a real transparency organization made in its place. We should have zero tolerance for propaganda masquerading as a transparency organization.

What was something not true that Assange published?

What was something not true that Assange published?
There's a difference between receiving classified information as a journalist and proactively assisting in the obtaining of that information. Wikileaks has almost exclusively targeted the U.S. Government and specific entities associated with that government. They publish both lies and distortions in an attempt to create a narrative against the U.S. government. There are countless examples of that.

In this case the DOJ is arguing that Wikileaks coached and provided tools and resources to Manning to help them obtain information while masking the origin. That's no longer journalism. That's espionage.

At this point I hope they try Assange, he dumps a metric shitton more material that embarrasses the U.S. in open court, and he's acquitted of all charges. That would be the absolutely most ideal outcome at this point.

No judge will allow irrelevant material to be entered as evidence at trial. Wikileaks can release anything they want in a different venue. Trump loves Wikileaks so maybe he'll pre-emptively pardon poor persecuted Assange. I mean, he's already suffered enough there in the Ecuadorian embassy, hasn't he?

Exactly and my challenge from 3 years ago stands, I have not looked in a while.
Someone please point me to Wikileaks about Russia.
Leaks involving a Russian bank being screwed by a Swedish bank do not count. Some trivial matter about water rates regarding a dam in Russia do not count.
Sort of weird how Wikileaks is all about freedom of information but for some reason that does not apply to places that have no freedom of information.

Can the President Pardon a non US Citizen? I legitimately don’t know.
I do know he could advise (direct) justice not to do anything.

Oh and also its founder was a paid employee of Russia’s state propaganda news network.

I will say it was amusing seeing the Russian response this morning to the "attack on journalism" when Assange was arrested. I mean this is the government who murders journalist by tossing them from buildings, poisoning them etc...

I mean there has to be something about how Putin has acquired billions of dollars as President, he doesn’t own any businesses and isn’t working in any other fashion. Are we to believe all this wealth was acquired legitimately?

Well the Panama Papers indicated massive corruption within Russia but Wikileaks told me it was a US intelligence plot in conjunction with George Soros. Since we know Wikileaks doesn’t publish lies I guess they were right and Russia is clean as a whistle.

Citizenship is immaterial wrt pardon. Directing the DoJ not to proceed would be obstruction of justice. The counter argument would be that it's not obstruction if the president does it. That didn't work for Nixon but the GOP has changed a lot since then...

I think the guy is a grade-A prick on many fronts, and I think very little of him or his cult of personality supporters who embrace so many frankly stupid conspiracy theories.... but I'm not sure what U.S. laws he broke. If the case is as simple as Manning stealing a bunch of documents and giving them to Assange to publish, then I'm not sure if Assange did anything criminal if the matter is just that simple. Did Manning break the law? definitly. Did Assange if he merely published the documents? I'm not really sure..Having said that, I haven't really been following what he's being accused of. Is he being charged with hacking a Pentagon password FOR Manning?

From what I understand...Assange has now been found guilty in the Westminster Magistrates Court of failing to surrender to bail. He plead not guilty, and declined to give evidence. He faces a sentence up to 12 years in prison. So..Assange hides out for almost seven years to avoid a 12 month prison term? WTF...I'm assuming the extradition request to the USA is what he's been hiding for all these years?

I don't follow Wikileaks close enough to have an opinion on their viewpoints, so it's possible that they've demonstrated a Russian bias in their statements and leaks. I don't understand how that rises to the level of being a Russian intelligence asset.

Russia conspiracy theories? Are you spending too much time reading nuts like Glenn Greenwald?

Are you familiar with Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting? Here are nine journalists that are not named Glen Greenwald talking about failure of the American press in reporting on Russian election interference/collusion. https://fair.org/home/tips-for-a-post-mueller-media-from-nine-russiagate-skeptics/

Who should do the disbanding? You think that the arrest of Assange for a blatantly political prosecution is a good thing?

The point you're missing is the U.S. Government DESERVED to have a narrative created against it. Between the Orwellian surveillance state and its remarkably effective efforts to suppress the vast quantity of civilian deaths, what Assange revealed was the best thing to happen to the health of the nation in decades.
