Informative article, thanks. So the rated speed on the memory sticks does not really matter. I'm still concerened about compatibility. Looking over the QVL list of compatible memory for the Asrock x58 Extreme, 90% of the serial numbers cannot even be found (on Newegg at least), and the rest are either for 2gb or 4gb kits, never for 6gb. Is this just another example of crap documentation? I imagine significantly more memory sticks work on the motherboard than are listed, but it is still very frustrating that the official list is so useless.

I never follow the QVL list, most of the time memory works and if it doesn't you can always trade it in FS/FT to someone for equal ram of a different brand and try that.

Furthermore, if you stick with a major manufacturer like Crucial or Mushkin, they'll exchange them if they are not compatible anyway.

I realize that. I've built computers several times before and have never had a problem with any component, much less memory. This is the first time I've even seen (or noticed) a compatible memory list.

Anyway, I purchased the Asrock board with this memory. Don't ask why I choose those sticks, I guess I had a "good feeling" about them, but I can't say why. I'll post the results when I get it and assemble everything
