A few months back it was unclear what the final requirements of an M2 board (now known as the AM2 board) will require and whether Asrock would actually be able to support such an expansion card. Has anyone actually heard any concrete information on this? I only ask because they have officially announced that the AM2 is coming out, so presumably AMD has released the requirements to the mobo manufacturers. I couldn't find anything on their website, but it's possible that I simply missed it. Does anyone have any insight on this?

the only difference on the m2 is going to be the memory controller it will still use Hyper Transport to connect to the northbridge, all the upgrade card is is a card with a cpu socket and ram slots that bypasses the ones on the board

I thought that there was concern with how DDR2 would work with the board and the CPU. Is that no longer an issue?

Is it just me, or does this appear quite logical...? There shouldn't be a problem... ASRock's pretty good with this stuff... :)

There's nothing stopping them from doing this. all the traces needed are to the northbridge HTT. Since the CPU has onboard memory controller, the slots can be directly on the upgrade card. There you go, the two things AM2 CPU need connected too covered.

That's exactly what I wanted to hear, thanks!

oh, and of course they wouldn't bring the card out prior to the CPUs, I had just heard that there might be some issues with bringing the Asrock Expansion card out was all... in fact it might of even been in the anandtech article.

Hey guys. I've lately been considering buying one of these and I just had one concern with regard to the am2 riser card.

I'd be looking to buy a fairly chunky cpu cooler, along the lines of a zalman cnps9500(assuming an am2 compatible revision) or thereabouts, but just how suitable is something like that going to be when sitting on a riser card as opposed to the motherboard itself? I'm just picturing the weight pushing down on the card and it gives me cause for concern.

Any thoughts?
