this a good upgrade from a Sapphire DUAL-X Radeon R9 280 3GB 384-Bit GDDR5 card?

I've been needing to upgrade my old i5-4750 rig and wanna keep it under $200

thanks.

I only owned a couple of 7950 cards, with a single fan in the center. (I believe that those were 28nm? 22nm?)

Anyways, they ran hot. But honestly, performance-wise, other than the increased VRAM size, I don't believe that the lower-end RX 5500 XT would really be that much of a performance increase, if at all. Probably a downgrade. Although, it would run cooler, and take less power, and has newer CU design features, that some newer games like ROTTR can take extra advantage of, I believe. (If not that one, then there are others, that Navi shows a significant improvement over old-school GCN shader processors/CUs.)

Edit: OTOH, going with the "newer must be better" theme, it would look pretty snazzy in your case, and you get (two?) free games with it. That should probably figure into your calculus too.
