Asrock p67 Extreme 6 not detecting gpu

Okay I am back.

I am having a problem with my old asrock p67 extreme 6, with a 2500k cpu.

I went a little crazy and might have let my 2500k become a big bottleneck for a new r9 390 gpu. Well that was the plan until I can't even get the motherboard to boot or my monitor to receive a signal. I tested the gpu on another board and it works fine. ((I did clear the CMOS and unhooked all my hdds, as default to default as I can think to get it and still no go))

To make things even more confusing I have an old sapphire 280x vapor x. And guess what it has a bios switch one with a legacy bios, one with uefi. (I am sorry I am not terribly versed in terminology) Needless to say with the legacy driver I have been running the computer without issue for the better part of a year. With the other bios I get guess what, yup no signal to the monitor, and the motherboard is saying it can't detect the device.

After doing some thinking, the only thing I can figure is that the bios is out of date and needs an update. However even that causes problems as apparently if I update the bios on the board I will probably run into issues with the cpu.

I guess the question is, is the motherboard bios at fault or could there be something else with my computer? (Again the same card 280x runs and doesnt run depending on what gpu bios I use) If it is the motherboard and I am only going to invite further issues with updating the bios should I just pick up a cheaper motherboard to fill the gap until I do a full rebuild? Was thinking of an asrock z75 pro3. If that seems a smart decision do you think I would run into the same issues as I have with the older p67 chipset?

Thanks for the help!

P.S. I asked a few days back that I bought my sister a fx8320cpu and came to the conclusion that it was a side grade if not a straight down grade from the 2500k (which I had running at 4.5ghz) So that is the third option, I swipe the new cpu for the time being and she gets a working 2500k with a 280x. No bios updates, no new motherboard. I just dont want to lose even more fps by the switch.
