I have a asrock p55 extreme and recently it has only been reading 1 of my memory sticks. I have g.skill trident 4gb 2000 memory.. The system was reading both memory at one time and now it only reads one..

Does anybody know why this would happen and how I could fix it ?? Thanks!

This happened right after installing the newest drivers for the radeon 5770 for win 7 64 bit. I got rid of one problem and now have a new one on my hands all over again :(

Has one stick died? Switch your 2 sticks around after checking your BIOS. Does the detected stick follow your swap?

I had this same problem with my new i5 build, and originally thought my mobo was a dud, but I did the above and found out one stick just came DOA. It was OCZ ram if you're wondering. 'Exchanged' it for G.SKill Ripjaws.

No I tried both sticks in the same slot and both sticks work.. The way its set up is it wants you to install the memory one after another. so its like this (blue-empty slot white-memory-blue empty slot-white memory) The funny thing is only the primary white slot will read memory by itself. It use to work fine when I first installed everything and now it doesn't work.

It will read 4gb's if I install both sticks in the primary blue and white right next to each other, however the system will be super slow and always freeze.

Just noticed you have an ASsrock. If your sticks work fine individually, then your mobo may be defective. I've had an ASsrock, and it came with a faulty SATA onboard controller. Didn't know how to remove the CPU then (did it the past weekend, feel retarded now), so just left it alone and bought an IDE HDD. I think they're the budget arm of Asus.

Otherwise, any chance it's a power/PSU problem? The 5770 may be more power hungry than your last card. I don't think they should be on the same rail, but you never know. Put your old card back in and try again?

I have a corsair 750w psu I don't think it would be a problem there but yea I might have a defective board..

I bought everything off newegg.. is it normal to buy things off them and receive them in a condition that makes you think they have been used before?? For example the cd that came with the motherboard looked like it had been put through some use, also the protective film on the video card made it look like it had been used previously and handled quite a bit.
