Someone PMed me about clearance of the Noctua cooler and the PCI slots. Sorry whoever sent it, not sure what happened to the PM sent about August 5, but I just saw it today now I can't find it...

So here are some pics and inof on my ASRock Extreme6 build...

<--- not my mobo or memory

G.SKILL Sniper Gaming Series 32GB 1600

Samsung 840Pro SSD 500GB

Plextor DVD

This build is in progress as I have a full time job and other activities - benchmarking and overclocking continue.

Here is a pic of the Noctua in relation to the PCI slots - a card in the Mini PCIe slot could bump up against the Noctua if it was too long

Notice that there is JUST ENOUGH room to mount the cooler next to the Memory. Crazy heat spreaders may be a problem but this G.Skill Sniper memory is OK.

That sounds like a really nice build. Let us know how things go.

I'm actually waiting on UPS to drop off the parts to my new build for an ESXi server with the same MB:

Fractal Define R4

ASRock Extreme6 Z87

i5-4670 (non-K for VT-d)

G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 32GB

SeaSonic SSR-650RM 650W

PERC6i w/BBU (raid controller)

(5) WD Red 2TB (RAID10 + HS)

Intel PRO/1000 Pt Dual Port Server Adapter

I'm going to use the stock Intel cooler until I figure out what I want to do. That memory has obnoxiously large heat spreaders which I should have considered beforehand. Thankfully, I'm not looking to OC or anything so an inexpensive quiet CPU cooler shouldn't be hard to find.

Eventually I'll throw in an SSD if needed for more IOPS

Needless to say, I have my weekend planned. (Hurry up UPS!)

Just for playing around with ESXi at home - nice :)

This box will theoretically be used for a server also - Windows 2012/Linux/Win 7 is the plan. I have plenty of disk space in my case and this MB gives us 6 SATA III from the Intel chipset (plus 4 more from the ASRock chip) and dual Intel Gigabyte NICs. Not too shabby!

I use that case too, for anyone not familiar with it...clean wiring is not a strong point haha.
