Strange issue - happens both Stock and Overclocked

When I reboot my PC, or turn it off for any reason, it will not turn on again at all. It just has a black screen. To get around this, I have to switch the power supply off, wait 20 seconds, and turn it back on. It then boots just fine.

The odd thing is, If I turn off the PC... and turn on and get the black screen - I cannot simply use the power button to turn it off and back on. Doing so brings it right back to the black screen. Using the switch on the power supply works though.

Anyone ever experience anything like this? It's an issue that's been happening pretty much since I put the PC together, but have ignored it because my PC runs 24/7 95% of the time. It's been completely stable when powered on.

It is annoying though when doing windows update restarts, etc.

Yes, I've tried a different power supply - about 2 weeks ago. Same issue.

Annoying - I don't want to RMA it - This PC is easily the most used in my house. It works completely fine, even with overclocking, as long as you don't need to reboot.

I am running Windows 8 - I'm wondering about it maybe being a software issue? Would it be worth going back to Windows 7? (I have a retail copy I could use)

I did buy this board on clearance (Got it for $70) and realize it's been replaced with a Revision 2.0 board which makes me wonder.

Do a CMOS clear, and load default values. Replace the cmos battery.

For all the love Asrock mobos get on the forums, I find very quirkyl. The 970 extreme 4, more often than not, requires a clear CMOS out of the box.

Is it the same board? Or the Z77 AsRock board in your sig? Just curious.

Not my board, I used this board in a build for a customer. FX-8150, 16gb, windows 7 X64. Same exact issues you are describing, and I dont think its software related. I have swapped CPU, PSU, RAM, GPU, re-imaged the machine. Swapped SSD/HDD. I have even RMA'd the board, and after an RMA the board still does it once and a while, but not nearly as often.

Been done many times. Doesn't fix anything. Did not try the CMOS battery, but why would replacing a battery fix anything?

I did a Google Search and there are lots of people complaining of the Blank/Black screen on boot.

Wonder if this is a common issue. this freakin sucks. I might check to see if Future Shop (Where I bought the board on its heavy sale) will do an exchange for another board - different model.

EDIT: Just called - mine would have to be returned by tomorrow. Sucks - as they don't have any motherboards at decent prices right now I want, looks like I'm going to return it and order a new board.

Well..... Fixed my issue.

Feel bad almost typing this.

I reversed the Power connection cable going from the power switch to the motherboard. It fixed the issue.

Mine restarts/shuts down perfectly fine now...

Mine certainly did for a build i just did for a friend. Though now he's having issues of the system basically failing once logging in. As if the I/O panel isn't working properly. All settings stock whilst being on desktop or gaming the monitor goes out and the mouse/kb stop working at all. Computer remains on, similar situation of an unstable OC. So doing an RMA refund and looking for something else. Hoping that's the source of the problem. Just couldn't link it to anything else.
