Drivers could work, but since 0x0000009c is so general, don't know what the exact problem is. For me, windows problems translated into boot/non-windows problems. So drivers wouldn't help. Also, I tried both windows generic and CD drivers (which are unnecessary if non-raid). No dice either way.

Have you tried it with fdd?

i burned firmware on a new cd-r and all worked ok. 30 seconds of suspense and panic watching the bar moving and hoping all is going well..........and now I have the new firmware V44OA96A. So i attached my hdd to SATAII controller and set SATA mode in BIOS. Restarted XP...but same freezes.....hdd led always on :-(. What is different between my setup and your setup Boake??? I think now I have a motherboard with a non working SATA controller.......now we have the same hdd...with same firmware! What else can I try? I begin to think to buy a new pci-sata1 controller at 20? and solve all my problems....can you suggest a cheap sata2 controller? I can buy here the hamlet pci-sata1 on a shop near my home..

My system: Venice 3200, 1gig ram, 6800gs, t7k250
XP pro sp2
I usually turn on my computer for about 20 hours a day. But there has been no BSOD, no rebooting,, something like that.
I really wonder why your issue cannot be solved.
We have almost same hardware...
But surely,, there will be a solution.

Of course you will BSOD-your winxp has not installed sataII drivers(the right way)
READ THE MANUAL. it specifically says install sataII drivers from floppy during winxp installation.
Do yourself a favor and fresh install winxp w/ the drivers "F2" option do it. specially that now you have installed your HDD factory drivers. Do it man and don?t listen to "work around" goons.

Shut the ****** up, stupid dickhead.
Why so many guys have same sata2 issue if this mainboard has no problem?
And can you explain why my sata2 hdd is running flawlessly with "WORKAROUND"?
If you can't, just shut up.

Once I manage to update the firmware on my HDD, I plan on reinstalling Windows. With the changes from port to port, I have noticed that Windows recognizes new hardware each time and installs drivers without my intervention. Those may be extraneous drivers which are not helping the situation.

designit, for both myself and Athlon, we did originally try to follow the official method, but Windows setup froze while copying setup files to the HDD from the CD. Actual installation could not even begin. I hope that the new firmware changes things.

So we know who the goon is :D
Notice I did not mention any name. But the goon identified himself.
thanks for letting us know who you are.
and please keep your foul language to yourself, no need to get so

I used the manual method for the SATAII drivers my first install and it still had problems. So far..still running smooth for now.

I managed to update the firmware on my HDD today. Long story, but the update only works on the SATAI-1 port, not the other two. Afterwards, Windows would only boot in safe mode, but no big deal since I was going to reinstall anyway.

Installation went smoothly using the official method. I used a brand new floppy and copied the Jmicron drivers using another computer than before. I don't beleive that should make a difference, but that should keep others from questioning things if things go wrong in the future.

Now to install the AGP and LAN drivers. I would prefer to use the latest drivers, rather than those from the CD. ULi seems to have released new 2.20 drivers recently - does anyone have experience with them? Were the relevant AGP and LAN drivers updated?

since you're at it and first time in windows, use the drivers in CD, then if you insist go and download the latest agp driver. you need lan any way right? or are you using modem?
I dont think the lan driver is any diferent.
and the agp driver from cd works just as good. if you have problem w/ vid then may try the other driver.
remember not to install your vid card driver before installing agp driver.

Hey Nazi, just shut up and answer my question.

ps. Don't pretend as if you made the official method. :D
That's all in the manual.

The LAN drivers may be newer and now WHQL certified, and I do need LAN. I did a previous Windows installation using the drivers from the CD and still had SATA problems, so I figure that newer drivers may help solve the problem, if anything. I mean, what's the worst that could happen? New problems? I think I've used up all of my bad luck with this motherboard already :D

I hope updating firmware solve the problem completely.
Then at least it will be the surefire method for Hitachi t7k250 sata2 users. :)

I suggest you fresh install xp, if you have done updating your firmware.
By that, you'll see the exact result.

I like your optimism boake, but chances are the solution may never be found for certain people. It's probably just a coincidence you guys all have the same drive (and same board:)) since so many different "solutions" exist. So probably a good idea to just bypass the SATA channels conpletely, and just get a controller card. Just don't forget about the bandwidth thing due to PCI slots and sharing (or so I've heard).

Also, don't get worked up over designit (I'm not hijacking the thread designit, I have hijacked the thread:)). Right now, I think I remember mentioning these boards and our problem in my complaint message to ASsRock. What are the chances that he's an employee... Go check out his thread in CPU forums, tell me he's just a satisfied customer.

Until I pass 5-7 days of problem-free computing, I won't be optimistic either. I still have an RMA waiting for me. I don't recall if you told us boake - what is the rev on your motherboard?

FREEZE! NOTHING installed yet, not even ASRock / ULi Drivers!

Computer was on, idle and unattended for 2 hours, although Event Viewer only shows activity for 18 seconds. On a reboot, FREEZE again after 15 seconds in Event Viewer. Both times show Event ID: 7036 - "The IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service service entered the stopped state" Any ideas?

boake, 1.60 is your BIOS version. The motherboard version is only labled on the board itself, just above the AGP slot.

I don't know whether or not you guys overclocked your system,
but I didn't overclock anything.
All CMOS settings are set to auto.
My computer is on 20 hours a day. But there are no bsod or rebooting.

@LinuxBravo...
SSC is disabled for me...but I my hitachi T7K250 won't work on SATAII controller :-(. I contacted Jmicron support too...they said to disable this SSC....that is disabled for default!
