Question ASRock B650M-HDV/M.2 RAM Issue with R& 8700G

Hello Everyone - Need some Help.
I just built a system with Ryzen 7 8700G APU & ASRock B650M-HDV/M.2 motherboard.
Using GSkill Flare X5 64GB (2 x 32GB) DDR5-6000 PC5-48000 CL30 that I swapped out from my previous build, that includes Ryzen 9 7900 CPU & ASRock B650I Lightning WiFi Mini-ITX Motherboard.

In the 8700G build I'm having all kinds of issues booting with this same RAM. I have no issues booting when using the RAM at the default DDR5-4800.
It had no issues at all in the 7900 build. In that build I just set the BIOS to EXPO DDR5-6000 & off I went.
In the 8700G build, I've tried:

- booting with EXPO set to DDR5-6000, no other UEFI changes > no boot
- booting with no EXPO, DDR5-6000 manually set with all other settings set same as EXPO > no boot
- booting with RAM manually set to DDR5-5800 or DDR5-5600 at 1.4V > no boot
- all of the above with RAM training set to either enable & disabled
- all of the above plus adjusting timings to more relaxed settings from default 30 & 40 at EXPO to 35 & 45

Is there some magic setting in order to get the 8700G to boot at DDR5-6000 or anything close to that or is it's memory controller just total garbage?

I didn't buy the 8700G to use with stock DDR5-4800 RAM settings. Should I just return it & go back to the 7900? I'd like to have the integrated graphics of the 8700G & avoid a dedicated GPU.

Appreciate any help / suggestions to try.

what bios version ? cpu support list says since 2.02 supports 8700g. Also is the memory on the QVL for that motherboard ?

Maybe not??? When I go to the ASRock support page for the RAM for the mobo, It makes you choose the series of processor your using (Ryzen 7000, 8000, or 9000 series).
I chose 8000 series (since I'm trying to use the 8700G). It found absolutely nothing. WTF! ? Same goes for Corsair! - Hello ASRock! WTF! It did find a bunch of compatible RAM from Kingston. A few options for Crucial.

The RAM I have is specifically part# F5-6000J3040G32GX2-FX5.

Looks like for the R9 7900 CPU I have, the support page only supports the following 64GB Kits: F5-6000J3040G32GX2-TZ5RK, F5-6000J3040G32GX2-TZ5RS, F5-6000J3040G32GX2-TZ5K.

Assuming if I tried the R9 7900 with my kit F5-6000J3040G32GX2-FX5, it also wouldn't support the DDR5-6000 speed? Not sure what the difference would be with the above 3 kits that are supposed to be supported?

Now I need to get different RAM to work with the 8700G?

G.Skill have a QVL of their own for this memory kit, but list only some ASrock X670E boards as tested together with Ryzen 8000G series.

If you want to keep this kit, you'll obviously have to test speeds and timings on your own. Note that AMD's specification of Ryzen 8700G is DDR5-5200 maximum for a dual DIMM (that is, 1 DIMM per channel, like yours) configuration.

It makes sense that ASRock's memory QVL for Ryzen 8000G differs from the ones for Ryzen 7000/9000, since they have different memory controller silicon.

What's funny is that when I check ASRock's QVL for RAM for my mini-ITX board B650I Lightning WiFi, the RAM kit I have (F5-6000J3040G32GX2-FX5) isn't even on the QVL & it has no problems running DDR5-6000 on that board all day long no sweat but it's being used with the R9 7900. So looks like either ASRock has better RAM support on the B650I Lightning WiFi than the B650M-HDV/M.2, or the 8700G memory controller is pickier than the 7900. My bet is on the 8700G being pickier.

I suspect so too.

The B650M-HDV/M.2 has 2 DIMM slots, and from what I have read, such boards *tend* to have better support of OC'd RAM than boards with 4 slots even if the latter are populated only with 1 DIMM per channel.

Last night I went to the Crucial website & searched for RAM compatible with the B650M-HDV/M.2 mobo. I found a kit of 32GB but couldn't find a 64GB kit that ran at DDR5-6000, so I ordered the 32GB kit off Amazon:

Crucial Pro DDR5 RAM 32GB Kit (2x16GB) 6000MHz CL36, Overclocking Desktop Gaming Memory, Intel XMP 3.0 & AMD Expo Compatible – CP2K16G60C36U5B Black off Amazon - $83.

Got it this morning, swapped it out for the 64GB Kit I had & it's working flawlessly. Booted right up at EXPO DDR5-6000 first try.
