hi guys !! welcome me back I'm back to being an active forum members on this and other forum ; I took a leave because my mobo/cpu combo was being RMA-ed for almost a month and to lurk in the forum without a computer is just plain suicidal (LMAO) ; I just got it this afternoon

anyways...

I have a question on ASROCK 939 DUAL SATA II built-in Ethernet port.. (Realtek RTL8201CL 10/100 Ethernet LAN PHY - 802.3u)

It works with my Windows XP drive, but for some reason, all of my Linux LIVE CD couldn't connect to the internet thru this ethernet port.

Has anyone (who owns the same motherboard) successfully been able to connect using any linux ?

I usually use Win XP for all my gaming addictions , but for internet browsing / instant messanging.. I prefer to use Linux.

With my old motherboard (AOpen AX45-8XN), all of my LIVE CD connects to the internet right away; the built-in ethernet is Realtek RTL8100BL for this AOpen motherboardl

Somewhere I read about the Microsoft dual-core patch. I can't remember why or when it should be necessary.

Hi ya,

I think its all to do with the power management, cool & quiet enabled and not working quite right. I used it and it gave me more performance in games.
Look for
WindowsXP-KB896256-v3-x86-ENU.exe

Or the really easy way is to disable C&Q.

I can not get this mb to work.
it would not power on at first.
2 times it booted but I could not get into the bios.

now it powers on but no power to the monitor.
I tried an nvidia agp card and a PCiE Radeon

I dont no if its just me but i dont think my computers runner as fast as it should.
i have my cpu oc to 2.5 and my video card oc to 420 core
on cod2 i get 20-30 fps when shooting n stuff
i have everything on high except for aa and i'm running 1154x862
i dont know if i'm expecting to much out of it or what

cod2 is very graphically intensive. U need a better video card. Imagine I have a 6600gt , athlon 64 3500, 2x1gb kingston ram, 500w enermax psu, etc and I run cod 2 at 1024 all high ( but texture settings to automatic ) and I get what u get. If I put textures to high, I get slideshows....

Ya, COD2 is very grapics intense, I have a 7800GT and it still can give me a lil lag in some spots, it needs the best card in order to get real smooth frame rates.

Can someone tell me exactly what drivers I need for this board? It is on its way to me right now from newegg, with an athlon 64 3200+ and a gig of 3200 ddr. I will be using my geforce 6600gt agp. I see people say to get the latest M1695 driver from ULI, which I have done, but what I dont get is, what is this driver? It just says "ULI Integrated driver" on the website. I will use the integrated network card, not sure about the sound...I have an old SB live value card, if the built in sound is as good I will just use that. Finally, what Nvidia drivers do you guys recommend? (sorry if this is a dead horse, but this is a long thread!)

COD2 came with my 7800 and it doesn't lag. Mind you I have AA off.

Update again about my booting issue; got a BSOD this time during a map change in Battlefield 2, then it wouldn't reboot at all. Looks like it wasn't the IDE channel completely so I used the online Seagate Diagnostic Tools, and eliminated the HD as the problem finally. It really shouldn't be the Ram since I've memtested it, and it runs fine in all other applications/programs. I've updated the BIOS to 1.50, but the ALi SATA controller is ?still? 1.10a; think I've narrowed it down to the motherboard.

By the way, switched the SATA cable from channel 1 to 2, works again, and obviously this will also be temporary (pos..I mean machine seems to like feigning normalcy in 1 week periods). Also shed blood on my video card for the first time pulling out a rather stuck SATA cable. So, I'm out of ideas, who has some?

Hi folks. New at this oc thing. Not a gamer. Just trying to learn a little. I've soaked up as much info since Nov. as I can. The rest comes with hands on experience and advice.

I have x2 4200 w/stock HSF, this board, 2gb crucial, raptor, ATI 9250 vid card.


Put it together Sat... none of the problems others had. Sure smokes my pII 450 I've been using for 8yrs. Temps been staying 31-33c.

So today I decide to start playing w/the settings. here is what I got so far...

cpu speed: 2545mhz(stable and tested for last 6 hrs. cpu temp 45c)
cpu mhz: 230
cpu multi: x11
cpu volts: 1.4(limit w/p1.5 bios)
mem:
clock: ddr400
8 beats
cl 3
trcd 3
tras 8
trp 3
1T

NB/SB link: both 600/16 bit
dram volts: high

In the end I will be satisfied w/running at 2600mhz for every day use if I can keep temps at 30's to low 40c's. But for the purpose of learning, I want to see if I can get higher oc w/o temps getting out of hand. Not doing any mods. However, I got a Ninja and fan coming tommorrow to help w/temps.

So, how do I proceed after I add the new HSF and backplate?
I've done every adjustment I can at this point except I 've kept the cpu multi. at x11. I don't get it yet how lowering it helps your cpu clock higher.

Any advice/help appreciated

Are you running memmory at 1t? If so try it at 2t.

If your RAM is regular PC3200 (you didn't really specify), then running DDR400 at 230 is pretty far out of spec and could be the reason for your overclocking wall at that point, 1T could also possibly be an issue. If that's the case, then you can lower the RAM divider to 166 (DDR333). If your RAM is higher spec'ed than PC3200, then ignore that as it's likely not your issue.

Since you can modify the RAM divider independently of the FSB/HTT, lowering your multiplier wouldn't really do a whole lot unless you wanted a kinda specific RAM frequency that you couldn't get with the standard CPU multiplier (for example you wanted to multiply the divider against a higher FSB for a certain value, if that makes sense). You shouldn't really need to though. (Keep in mind that DDR400 means 1:1, DDR333 means the RAM runs at 5/6 the CPU/HTT/FSB base speed, etc.)

My guess though, is that you're probably hitting a wall because of the 1.4V limit you observed. I'm not entirely sure why the limit for X2's and DC Opterons is 1.4V instead of the 1.45V that Venice chips get (perhaps because the X2 stock voltage is a bit lower), but in any case, unless there's some magic software/BIOS volt hack I haven't yet heard of, that's all you're going to get unless you do a hard mod (whether the conductive pen thing, soldering a resistor, whatever). Since you said you're not interested in modding, your current overclock of ~2550MHz may very well be all you're going to get - but that's still a quite respectable speed given the low volts.

It sounds like you basically know what you're doing, but if you have any more questions, I'll try to answer if I can

I lowered memory to 5/6 and even tried 2T and 'auto' for other timings. No benefit. Sorry about the mem. info lacking. It is pc3200.
I'm ok with the oc; just thought I might be missing something. Another good thing I noticed later was that temps. were in the high 40c's only while trying different settings. During normal use they stayed 31c,32c...35c tops. I think I may have been too quick to order the Ninja HSF. Think I'll try it any way. If I can run at 2600Mhz and keep my temps in low 30c's my chip will last longer.

Any other observations are greatly appreciated.

In general I'd say as long as you stay under 50°C, you're fine (though of course lower is always better). Lowering the CPU multiplier wouldn't really gain you much of anything, you'd just have to run at a higher HTT and lower RAM divider to compensate.

You've probably just about reached your limit for 1.4V, but 2.55-2.6GHz with temps in the 30's is definitely nice

hey fellas, need an opinion here. i am in process of building my new system. i have an ASrock 939 dual Rev 1.4, A64 3200 Venice Rev.E, 1.5 gb of Corsair XMS PC3200 (1gb is dual channel), SB Audigy2, ATI X800XT PE vid,WD 320gb SATA hd, a firewire / usb card, Thermaltake 450w PSU in a Antech Sonata case.
i do not plan to o/c (right now anyway) and playing BF2, so, what settings should i use. i have read through this thread, but with 53 pgs. now, it is tough to sift through all the stuff i am looking for.

I've pretty much given up on the problem and running with the case open until it dies again. (Well, in my world it's open, but I just don't have the room to have 3 panels laying around) And yes, it's at 2T, it defaults to 2T actually on Auto/SPD. Pretty much narrowed it down to a crappy BIOS/SATA controller or my mixed Ram that somehow seems fine, but may be messing with other things, who knows? (Once had a bad mouse lock-up another machine, took a while to figure out since the mouse did work 'properly' half the time.) So, until then...

If you use an aftermarket HSF with this board, is it required to get the metal back plate, or is that only for the XP-90?

I want to use my Freezer 64 that I have installed on my MSI board on theis Asrock. If fits just fine on the retention bracket that's on the board now. So I guess my only question is whether or not I need the back plate installed to ensure the mount doesn't fall out of the MB.

From what I can tell, the backplate is only needed if your heatsink screws into the backplate.

I just bought my 939Dual and an Aerocool GT-1000... I had no idea the reason it wouldn't screw into the retention bracket, was simply because there was no backplate! Goddamn retailer asked me to return the HSF as faulty... then I found out about the backplate issue.

BTW, the retailer actually recommended the Freezer 64 Pro because it attaches with clips instead of screws.

Sounds like many are running ram at 2T with this board, how would this compare to coming from a socket 754 running at 1T/single channel. To clear that up which is faster 1T single channel or 2T dual channel?

I think 2T dual is way faster. I ran this board in single channel mode for a while and memory scores were very low. With bios 1.5, i'm running 1T daul channel without a hitch
