Seems Rubycon cpas are good.

Also, we should take a moment to applaud the Fatal1ty AN8's use of high-end Rubycon capacitors. Japanese-made Rubycon capacitors were largely immune to the cap-bursting problems that plagued Taiwanese-manufactured caps several years ago, and having them on-board should give users a little extra peace of mind.

The capacitors aren't Rubycon, Rubycons have a 'K' shaped stamp. I see a few Chemi-Cons(good), but the rest look like OST(very bad). Asus used OST's on their first run of 9xx boards and 9 months later my office has replaced 4 out of 10 for blown caps. I'm not sure why some companies still don't get it, but I guess for $68 you could just buy two of them. Pics from a similar issue:

So did I, but you have Chaintech/BFG using Luxon(worst of the worst), ECS/Asus using OST, and Epox using Teapo/Hermei. Abit is the only company to commit to all Japanese across the board. DFI does on most of their boards, and MSI/Gigabyte have what I'd consider an acceptable Japanese to crap ratio. Asus is all over the place, their OEM boards that end up in HP's or Gateways use almost all Japanese, their retail boards are a crapshoot. I've seen identical A8N SLI Deluxe v1.02 boards, one retail and one pulled from a system(Falcon or Hypersonic or similar), the OEM was all Chemi-con and the retail had a lot of Ltecs(junk).

I am using a a64 3000 venice with this motherboard because it's just for general use. All I can say is that the board was very easy to install and it worked perfectly right from the start.

Some tiny problems I noticed but nothing to worry about.:-

1. I don't really like where they have positioned the atx power connector because I now have wires almost touching my cpu cooler.

2.The PCI slot 3 is too close the floppy connector so I had to move my modem to another slot.

3.Would of prefered the cpu fan connector to be placed on the right of the motherboard.

Why is everyone so hung up on capacitors? Since 2003 I've so far owned a Asrock K7S8X, Asrock K7S8XE+, Asrock K8 Upgrade 760 GX and now a Asrock 939 Dual Sata2. I have never had any asrock motherboard failures and the K7S8X is still being used every day by my brother and it was bought in 2003. Remember that Asrock are not Abit so don't worry about dodgy capacitors! 😉

Right. You can't always go by brand name (ex: what if Rubycon made a bad batch of capacitors, what if OST changed their company's direction) - as long as there's no outburst of exploding caps I think it'll be good.

Edit: Also, as for longevity, most people don't even keep their computers that long. For me it's 3 years max (but I usually upgrade every 2 years) and I put a whole new box together.

I have my board up and running now. I am still tidying up the software updates and such, but so far I have had no problems with the install and configuration of the board. I am running an X2 4200, 2x 1 gig OCZ platinum, and an AGP 6800gt on the board. The only tweak I had to make was the board defaulted to slow speed/ loose timings on the ram. I manually put it to the rated settings and it has been running fine since.

I wish they were an issue of the past. Over the past year, we've replaced close to 700 dell mbs due to capacitor problems. It was so bad with the Dell recall, Dell is giving us free products to compensate our time 🙂 I'm currently waiting on a 7800GTX and a 2405FP. Works for me, by then end of the recall, I could swap a dell sff motherboard in less then 5 minutes start to finish. Hardest part was getting that darn power supply out.

Actually after thinking about it some, even if the XP-120 did fit the new SI-120 might be a better option. From reviews so far it seems to cool about as well, but being higher off the board with more overhang would allow for some pretty good secondary cooling of the passive NB heatsink and RAM as well. Thoughts?
