heres my cpu for my new RAM and i only got 43 seconds on superPI

So you've tried:

underclocked CPU
underclocked RAM
underclocked HTT

and the board still won't go past 235? Strange. How good is your PSU?

Hi Hacka, I've got this board too, actually I have two of them! One works fantastic (A64 Winchester 3000+ stable at 250 HTT on air, A64 X2 Manchester 3800+ stable at 240 HHT on air) and the other is flaky as hell and I can barely do any overclocks at all.

I do know that when I reloaded the BIOS setup defaults it automatically put in a 5:6 memory divider (DDR 333), so the RAM runs 166 MHz at stock, 200 MHz at 240 HTT, and about 208 MHz at 250 HTT. The board does max out at 1.45 volts for Venice procs, the ony way around it is to break out a soldering iron and do some volt mods on the board which are kind of risky (I've tried one on both of my boards and can't get it to work on either).

You can also adjust the RAM voltage, but that's just Low (2.5v) and High (2.7v)

so i hit 235 HTT at ddr400?

what do you recommend? you think my mobo is just garbage?

Well I definitely wouldn't say the mobo is garbage if you can run stable at 235 HTT... all you have to do is look a thread or two over from this one and read about the utter nightmares some people have had with this board. You're well past that point, and onto the "tweaking" stage of system setup.

As far as you getting 43 seconds on SuperPi, your RAM speed is kind of on the low side. Your post a little ways up says "DRAM Frequency 156.7 MHz "... since you are using a stick of PC3200 you should be able to nudge up your speed to get it up closer to 200 MHz (and probably a tiny bit faster). Your "FSBRAM CPU/15 " figure tells me you are running a 2/3 divider (Cpu multiplier = 10, so 10/15 which is the same as 2/3), or DDR 266. Bump it up to DDR 333 and see if that helps SuperPi. The other thing is, you are only using one stick of RAM, if you use two (identical) sticks you will gain use of the dual channel memory controller which will also help your system performance.

Hope this helps,

yes but when i have it at ddr400 it still has that crazy divider... i dunno why. And with this ram.. 5-2-2-2 timings i got a crappy superpi score.. same score with my 8-3-3-3 ram.. i dont know what to do.. is my cpu bad? :(

i will mess with mem settings and run it again. and read that other thread,

Yeah two sticks dual channel should shave off another 2-3 seconds in SuperPI, then running it at DDR400 you should be under 40 seconds with that setup... 43 certainly isn't terrible though, my 3000+ Newcastle gets 49 if I remember correctly (this 3700+ @ 2.61 does it in 34 seconds, mem at 186 Mhz.)

Hacka,

I just read the OP. I had problems getting my network to work with this board too. When I would try to install the drivers from the disk it would say something like ULi LAN not found, but it would still detect a network adapter in windows, it just wouldn't let the integrated drivers install. What I ended up doing to fix this was to extract all the drivers from the driver package (the executable), and then go in and manually install. Kind of a pain in the butt work around, but my built in network (make sure it is enabled in the bios also) is working fine now.

Hi Hacka... that " Large memory sizes should be made of Registered/Buffered memory" message you are getting from Sandra is utter crap, only server motherboards need Registered RAM. In fact the only warning message in that whole thing that caught my attention is the free disk space warning.

BrokenArrow, good point about those LAN drivers... I actually found the ones on the CDROM disc that comes with the motherboard to be crappy/out of date... I recently downloaded new ones from the ULi site at http://www.uli.com.tw/eng/support/drivers.php and they work much more nicely. If you decide to try them out make sure you specify the correct ULi chip (M1695) that the ASRock board uses.

Let me just repeat things a lot of people have said.

1) Set the first option to "PCIe asynch" and leave PCIe bus at 100
2) Drop your CPU multiplier to 9 or less (and make sure it sticks, if I drop my multi below 8 it just boots up at 9).
3) Your memory should be set at 133
4) set the "HT-NB" thingie to 600, both places. It says it twice.

Once all of these things are taken care of, you should have eliminated every problem: Your memory shouldn't be too fast, your PCIe bus shouldn't be too fast, your CPU shouldn't be too fast, your HT bus shouldn't be too fast. You want to make sure none of those things could possibly be screwing you up, then try to hit 236.

Luck.

I hope you haven't given up..... :) yet.... on the other hand, if you have really tried all of the above and it still doesn't work, it's trade-in time.... :brokenheart:

The 939Dual SATA II is not a board for overclockers.. try another board, I own it and I got my venice 2 ghz to 2.4 ghz@ 240 fsb.
If I was you I'd be happy with your overclock, also set ram timing or MA timing to 2T, or Auto

ok i already moved those timings down to 600... i set the ram at 133... i set the pci-e at 100 and the FSB is stable at 237... i cant get 1 increment higher... so im at 10x237.. ma timing 2t... voltage is at 1.45

i dunno what else i can do :(

i cant get below 43-45 superpi score and ive gotten 41 with my 2400+ mobile. :'(

Have you tried this?

Set CPU Multiplier to 8X
Set RAM to 100
Set CPU-NB Link Speed to 600Mhz

Then try and boot at 240 HTT

Question for you russki.

Why are you promoting paypalsucks.com? That is the lamest site I've ever seen and is obviously run by a PayPal competitor that is just trying to get some cheap advertising. Not to mention it's completely full of idiots that just don't want to pay their bills.

lol, 2.4ghz+ doesn't really suck ass, it's still quite a good performer (i have mine set at 222 *11). Seeing how people often are able to get higher, I might say that it's because of your 3500 venice? Seeing how I have almost the same symptoms as you. Lowering the multiplier to 10 or even 9 and ram down to 166 or 133 didn't help me push my fsb above 235mhz. Since these athlons have an onboard memory controller, I'm guessing it's because of the cpu. Now if I can get more balls...I'll do the volt mod so I can give 1.55v to the cpu, which will help my raise the oc at an 11x multiplier.
