can anyone else confirm this? this is a big deal since I have lots of VCDs. Most "cheap" players made in Asia will play VCD, why is this one different. The description on buy.com does not list VCD as a playable option

It plays VCD 2.0. However, the defult TV seting is Multi, some disk will becomes black and white; you need to set your TV to NTSC or PAL, depends on your VCD disk.

i stole this from chub purse

region free instructions

Open Tray
Press the pause button on the remote
And Lastly punch in 20110 for a ZoneFree Player and close the tray

This procedure can be done mulitple times without hurting the DVD Player/Recorder ...

You'll be able to see the preference page once you done this and select whatever region you want.

Make sure there's no disc in the tray when accessing the preference page under setup.
Change the TV color to NTSC only, not Multi, if you don't have a multi system TV. Then you'll be able to watch media recorded in Pal on your NTSC TV.

hope it works!

My firewall did that to me. Or, your browser's security setting too high?

I am in hog-heaven now.

Thanks to all the posters in this thread. I figured out the VCD and remote things.

YES, it plays VCD. It flickers badly before. But once I changed the setting from Auto to NTSC, it plays beautifully. As a matter of fact, the picture quality is even better than the JVC progressive DVD it replaced.

VCD-compatibility is not a big issue to me. SVCD compatibility is. Like my last post, this player plays SVCD beautifully (hence the reason it will replace the JVC player which doesn't play SVCD).

This player is so GOOD it even plays K-SVCD disc I burned. I had never seen any player that can handle KVCD except APEX. I guess this one do also.

Regard to remote, like one of the poster said, there is a flip at the bottom that can be opened up for more controls. As my last post, my wife think this remote is the best she had (for the lack of buttons). But I don't like it at all for the same reason. Now both of us get to like the remote. What a clever design.

Oh, my kids LOVE the karaoke functions.

I had never spend so few money and having the whole family falling in love with it.

Again, thanks for the deal.

Glad to hear more good things being said about this unit. I talked my dad into getting this for the kids for christmas, for the Karaok function. :D (Although, I may watch a movie or two.)

What do you guys think of these? I already ordered two. If someone has a better deal, or nicer mic, post away.

Also, where do I find compatible Karaoke discs for the kids to mess with? Is the standard CD+G?

Thanks OrooOroo for the original post.

I have a question for some of the more knowledged poster here.

My sister in law is interested in this deal also. But she doesn't have a credit card. My wife offered to use her credit card and shipped to her sister's address.

But the receipt from Buy.com has both the shipping address and credit card holder address on it. The rebate clearly said limit of 1 per name per address. I already ordered using my name and my address.

My question is which address (shipping or credit card holder) will the rebate company check?

When I ordered, the default shipping choice wasn't free, but there was a shipping selector in the lower left of the checkout screen that let you pick the free shipping.

Kaborka is right! Gotta choose the option above it. 'Super saver shipping' is what it's called. Tried the region hack and it worked flawlessly! New option under the 'Preferences' page let's you choose the region now. This thing kicks serious butt! Plus the karaoke feature with echo makes me sound liek a pro ;).

Thanks OP and chubbypurse. Definitely a cheaper deal than the CyberHome deal from BB last year at this time.

I too had probs getting the free shipping option to come up and getting kicked back to the shopping cart page (b4 noticing that the $5 coupon was causing this to happen).

Is there a MV hack? Seems too new, so not much info available yet.

I can not get region free to work. Do you get a new option somewhere? The "region country" was already "preferance page" before the hack, it is to set the default language of DVD.

I use only the remote for the hack, maybe I did it wrong? Here is how I did :

Open Tray
Press the pause button on the remote
Punch in 20110 and close the tray
No disc in the tray when accessing the preference page under setup.
The "same" "country region" under preference page
