It's clear that no matter how good something is elsewhere our "Garage" will bash it if it's not free or under $10.

It's so sad things can't be at least enjoyed even when you dudes cannot afford them.

How long can you afford to keep getting these infractions...?

The VW versions are about half the cost at $99.

Most that made this easy swap thought it was one of the best things they ever did for there driving experience.

Whatever floats your boat. I don't think it's a matter of people not being able to afford these - there are plenty of people here who easily could. It's more that we don't see any point to them. There are certainly worse ways to spend your money, but I don't really see the upside of these.

Were these actually spec'ed on Euro cars or just an option? I have driven many different cars in Europe (albeit no E46 M3s) and have never encountered these mirrors. Cars in Europe often have convex mirrors on the drivers side but I have never seen these things or anything like them.

These were OEM M3 mirrors everywhere but the USDM.

How are the ones you're buying any better/different than this?

Are these the mirrors where the outside half bends a little bit to let you have more field of view?

Edit: Yeah, like the one in the picture above.

2nd edit: Oops, no, different idea entirely. lol.

I had one of these on the passenger side of my Saab, and it was great. Yes, I still looked over my shoulder before changing lanes, but I like to glance at my mirrors at least once or twice a minute and it just makes it easier to know what's going on around my car.

I have to say that I'm surprised at the people that say they adjust the mirrors to show the blind spot. That seems like it would prevent you from seeing what's going on behind you in the lane next to you, and even if you craned your neck all the way around, the pillar would probably block you from seeing.

I thought it was a good product, who cares what Alkemyst says he paid for it? You guys are letting yourselves get trolled.

shipping ain't free...troll.

wow, it cost you $100 to ship two mirrors? did it go around the globe a couple times before it came to your house?

edit: no complaint about the mirrors though. I have seen them in my friend's car and they allow you to see a lot more. And yes, I do set my stock mirrors to SAE recommended guidelines.

Go up and redo the math, I provided a post above to help you out.

Maybe your driving conditions are different.

I drove 8000 miles since December, six weeks my car was parked

Pretty sure mileage doesn't matter. I drive on freeways, highways, city streets, etc. It generally takes less than 2 seconds to check a blind spot. Normally, when passing or merging, I don't have someone in front of me when I am getting back to the right, and if I do, I leave enough space between myself and them to ensure that I can compensate for any drastic maneuver they wind up doing.

In any case, the end point most are making is that if the side mirror on the passenger side is pointed outward so that you can see those people in the right lane, it is adjusted correctly. If you need to see behind you, you use the rear-view mirror in the car.

Basically, what you're saying is we can avoid doing this:
http://www.caranddriver.com/features/how-to-adjust-your-mirrors-to-avoid-blind-spot
for free,
and buy a $200 piece of plastic and mirror that allows us to see both behind the car and to the side of the car using the same mirror.

I say, what is the point? If I want to check the lane next to me, I use the side mirror. If I want to see behind me, I use the rearview mirror. My car is readily equipped to do so.

My mirrors are adjusted just like that car and driver piece. I do find it funny how that is like everyone's bible on mirror adjustment though...I knew this prior to 16.

It's clear you are out of your element as to the purpose of these mirrors and what they can allow.

If the due in the video had his mirrors adjusted properly he would have seen that car anyway. Guess he likes his car so much he feels the need to look at it in his mirrors, rather than the blind spot. Probably a dash stroker as well.

 Pretty much this.

If you can see the side of your car in your side view mirrors, they aren't adjusted correctly.

The difficulty is that the only thing you've posted about them is that dumb video, where their benefits are shown when using the mirrors adjusted the traditional way. I am having a hard time seeing how these could be beneficial if your mirrors are adjusted the SAE-recommended way. If I could really see how these would be better I would entertain getting a set myself - I just can't imagine how they would help.

I am pretty much done defending these here. Either our posters are trolling or have no clue about driving.

You get a wider field of view. If you can't see that as an advantage then there is not much to say.

USDM passenger mirrors in general are counter-productive to spirited driving.

You can get those stick on mirrors that do basically the same thing at any auto parts store for a few bucks.

i had a vw gti, the exact one that is in the video actually (2003 20th anniversary edition in the same imola yellow color) that i sold 2 weeks ago, and had driven for the past 5+ years.

i never once had an issue with blind spots in that car.

Miles driven shouldn't be an indicator of a mirrors performance, otherwise I have you beat. I averaged 12000 miles a month in my old Volvo 770. If you have some duct tape and bailing wire I'll help you install its mirror's on your car. I'll even give you some mirros for the fenders. 😀

Out of my element? Hmm, didn't realize a newb mechanic didn't know how to use mirrors.

As for the mirror adjustment bible bit... I just googled mirror adjustment, that's what popped up first.

I gotta hand it to you, you sure sell this thing like the late, great Billy Mays. No more looking over your shoulder and getting into a fender bender while checking your blindspots, thanks to the brand new shiny Euro Split mirrors. You'd think the store price on these babies would be $600... NOPE! $500... Guess again! These babies can be yours for the low price of just 199.99. But wait, that's not all... if you order now we'll through in the uber popular and exciting ashtray assembly for just an additional $70 (plus P&H).

Do they extend the angle, I suppose they do. But the problem here is the things cost two hundred bucks and provide very little benefit over the standard methodology. And for $200, I sure won't be rushing out to buy a set.
