Asleep at the desk

It is slow here today, so many people on holidays, but there is still about 30% of the workforce in the office. I was sitting at my desk at 9:30, and I just bolted upright, realizing that I'd been asleep for the last 45 minutes. The slight drool on my chin gave it away.

Fortunately (or so I hope), no one has been around. I'm a pretty light sleeper, so I'm rather sure I would have awoken if anyone walked by.

Anyone else sleepy at work? :)

Europe has the lifestyle thing figured out ... mandatory 4 weeks holidays, shorter working weeks. Who cares if you're making a mint if you're getting more out of life. I wish I weren't stuck behind my desk for 9 hours a day. :(

Going to talk to the supervisor this week about possibly working only 4 days a week ... will NOT mention sleeping at work ;)

I did when I was an intern at citigroup. I actually had problems keeping myself awaken. they didn't really care if I disappeared for an hour or two.

Yeah, I could REALLY use a nap. Any tips?

Put your feet up on the desk, close your eyes, relax and try counting back from 100 to 0, focussing only on the numbers. That'll do it. The only times I usually sleep at work is on coffee/lunch breaks when I'm totally bagged, and that works for me. I get to around 65 every time and knock off.

No, I mean in a manner that'll NOT get me fired if someone happens to walk by...

Edit: Got back from lunch around 10 mins ago.

Go into a 'conference call' mode. Shut the door, just don't leave it that way for hours. Closed doors are OK here at work, though I have worked places where this was totally unacceptable. Sometimes it is the only way to get any work done. What made you so sleepy?
