asking for time off...

I started working as the queue administrator in a local IT department last Wednesday. When I was interviewed I didn't mention that I am going on a fishing trip with my father in late July for two reasons: I thought I was only going to miss 4 days of work, which would not be a big deal, and secondly because I wanted to make sure I get the job. I found out today that I will be most likely missing 6 days instead of 4. I am only a summer employee--I'll work until I go to college in late August. Do you think this will be a problem? Anyone have advice for me as far as a strategy for asking off?

Haha.... wow. The only thing you can do is ask for it off. If they say no... hey just call in sick or something. If the job is that important to you, then I guess you can't go fishing.

On every internship I have been on, people were flexible to family vacations and trips. I don't think it will be a big deal if you go, but of course if they want you to stay, you ahve to decide on whether the trip is worth it or not.

Line up someone to cover for you during that time before you ask for time off. Managers will more likely to approve your vacation request.

if you do decide to ask for it off, ask for it off now. the more time in advance, the better it'll look. and if they forget, remind them that you said something a whole month prior.

i'm not irreplaceable....usually the dozen or so techs each take a one-week turn doing what I do before they return to running tickets. I was just asked to come in because most of the techs will be taking a vacation this summer and they needed an extra guy.
