First of all, relax. This isn't the place for flaming or talking about how much better one is than the other.

Rather, I just made this poll because I've always wondered about this question, and I'm putting it to you to see whether my take on the matter is accurate or not.

Vote away, and discuss why you chose what you chose (rationally, if at all possible).

... why not just get the 6800 GT??

So far, I've definitely gotta say that the poll results are kind of flying in the face of how I thought things would be.

I'm running on a Celeron laptop with a Radeon 9000 IGP :( Just a 1-2 months before I build my new Athlon 64 rig though...

Cheese, if it will make you feel better, when I upgraded to my 9700 Pro, I did it from an MX420!

Hopfully I should be upgrading soon though, but I need to save up a bit more and I want to wait for the new grahpics cards.

Yeah, definitely surprised by this one.

I figured that people who went Intel would also frequently go nVIDIA, since both of those companies seem to subscribe more to the raw power school of processing. Similarly, AMD people would go with ATI because they're less about raw numbers and more about shortcuts in doing the calculations.

Who knew?

AMD and NVidia

Just saying what I would get. The 3000+/3200+ Venice and 6600GT cannot be beaten in their price ranges.

nVidia makes drivers for FreeBSD. There is no reason to go with ATI for me.
AMD has created efficient cpu's for an inefficient processor architecture.

Athlon XP 3200+ & ATI AIW 9600 Pro

Wish I had gone nVidia. ATI linux drivers suck.

Amd and ATI in my latop (Emachines M6805) and my desktop Winchester 3200+ and an X800XL, I used to be Intel / Nvida guy, but since I retired my Geforce 4 Ti4400 and my overclocked P3 I haven't had an Nvida card or Intel CPU, I just couldn't pass up the X800XL for only 268 delivered :) or I would have gone w/ a 6800GT this time around.

AMD and nVidia

Personal preference, as all of the high end stuff is now anyway, considering just about any high end card above the $300 dollar price rangs will put just about every game above 70FPS.. above which, you cant notice a difference.
