Long story short: I needed to look up a phone number on my buddies desktop, he said sure and asked if, while I was on it, I could see why his printer wasn't working.
His computer has a bunch of odd little problems.
He has a V2 Premier V26328 with Windows XP home.
After clearing some useless programs and adding spybot and adaware, I looked around a little more.
The two big problems I am working on:
1) The Multimedia Audio Controller is uninstalled. The device is a Realtek AC'97.
Googling I found a few other people with the same problem, but no good explanations or a solution that fixes it.
I tried putting the drivers back on, as a few forums had suggested and now it is saying that it is installed but malfunctioning.
2) The Add/Remove Programs does not show all programs installed. It shows about 10 or so programs and I know for a fact that quite a few were just there a day ago. All of the programs that are there have no option to remove or uninstall.
Another program, which I either never noticed or recently came in is Webfldrs XP. I have found quite a few forums that tell you how to actually remove this program and a couple that tell you how to add the removal option back, but none that explain why this would happen and what to do to fix all three parts of the problem (missing program, new program, and lack of removal option).
I am assuming the easiest fix might be a reformat/reinstall but I am not sure if this would be an option. He is attempting to locate all of his install cd's tonight.
His computer does have a recovery program, but I don't know how great it is. It is Phoenix Recover Pro 2004.
I appreciate any help you can offer. If a hijackthis would help I can try to get that tomorrow.
EDIT: Almost forgot: In case you were wondering, the ink cartridge wasn't all the way in place.
