Ask the card-carrying socialists: Is Obama one of them?

http://www.cnn.com/2010/POLITICS/04/14/Obama.socialist/index.html?hpt=C2

But Wharton, co-chair of the Socialist Party USA, sees no reason to celebrate. He's seen people with bumper stickers and placards that call Obama a socialist, and he has a message for them: Obama isn't a socialist. He's not even a liberal.

He and others say the assertion that Obama is a socialist is absurd.
"It makes no rational sense. It clearly means that people don't understand what socialism is."

Since so many people keep throwing that term around, and they really have no idea what it means, I thought this was a good piece.

What the hell "he's not even a liberal". He was the most liberal senator there was. The most radical far left president we've ever had. And he's a marxist/communist which includes some socialist tendencies. I normally just call him what he really is, a piece of shit.

I dont know...even the extreme left progressives dont like him much...I wouldnt classify him as a true socialist.

That said, he certainly leans more towards the socialist side than our last D president, thats for sure. Socialists, in general, tend to aspire to the worker base, and think capitalism's biggest flaw is their perceived concentration of wealth at the top, and their desire to stop that. Obama certainly doesnt think that, given his track record with Wall Street. He rewards what the left call the evil rich as much as R's do.

The wingnuts said the same thing about Clinton, that he was a Marxist and a socialist. And they'll say the same thing about every future democrat in the oval office. In fact, there is something almost comfortingly predictable about it. It just wouldn't be America anymore without without every democrat being compared to to Joseph Stalin.

It's like Coca-Cola and apple pie.

I spent my entire college career studying Marxism and I feel pretty comfortable saying that Obama's no Marxist.

but we might be better off if he was.

He has socialistic tendencies. IMHO the only reason he won was because Palin sucked off McCain to get on the ticket.

Who took over banks? Who took over auto companies? Who is taking over and health care? Who has a fucking PAY CZAR to dictate what people make? Who told us we can't keep our thermostats ad 72 degrees anymore and drive SUVs? Who is expanding at a dizzying pace peoples dependence on government money?

That's right. Obama. We have never seen a president this far to the radical left. Ever. To this fucker capitalism is the enemy. Hmmm, what other doctrine has such a founding principle?

This is all true spidey; however, if he truly were to be a socialist, we would have quashed anything in place that even resembled rewarding the rich. As far as his policies (so far) go towards the ultra rich, he's the same as Bush was. And Clinton for that matter.

Yep. Then he wouldn't be President. I had little against him up until this health care reform fiasco. Don't get me wrong I still like him better than Bush, but turns out he's a politician like any other. Naive as hell and willing to sacrifice his apparent idealism for politics. Here's hoping his methods, whatever their motivation, prove sounder than Bush's.

He had to start somewhere, and he knew that without rewarding the wealthy (powerful) he would not be able to get the ball rolling. They are going to get taxed into oblivion as soon as he doesn't need their help anymore.

Who took over banks? Who took over auto companies?

Both of those were done by George W. Bush. And frankly both were the right decisions. (though Bush's fault was not putting tighter regulations on the banks, which has to some degree been fixed, though not enough)

Who told us we can't keep our thermostats ad 72 degrees anymore and drive SUVs?

Uh, nobody. Lots of people have told you you'd save a lot of money if you DID turn the thermostat down and not drive an SUV, and they'd be right.

Who is expanding at a dizzying pace peoples dependence on government money?

Uhh. Reagan?

Well, again, George W. Bush expanded the dependence of FOREIGN people on our government's money, so I'd rather it be spent here.

But, you just keep right on living in your crazy world.

We had a thread about this in ATOT. Spiderman basically justified leaving every electrical device in the house on even when he's not home because "I paid for it"

He's the reason California has brownouts.

You really have no fucking clue do you? Can you go find a grade school student to explain things to you? Start at 3rd grade and work your way up.

"Radical far left" today is still to the right of Goldwater. And BTW, you're a nutjob.

Shhhhh. The truth is like a painful torch to the face for Republicans. Don't point out reality because if they're forced to live in it, they might die!

Was he or was he not the most liberal/left leaning senator when he served?

If you say no, then you really haven't been paying attention to Hussein.

No, he wasn't.

You realize there is an actual socialist in the senate, right? Bernie Sanders? He freely admits it. I'm willing to guess he was a little more liberal than Centrist Obama.

Also, maybe, just maybe, Russ Feingold.

And probably a dozen or two others.
