I just recently recieved my CCIA, so if you any questions regarding CPS 3.0, 4.0 or 4.5 - Access Gateway, Web Interface, Secure Gateway, Netscaler, Wanscaler, or Password manager - ask away, time to see if I *really* do know anything OUTSIDE of my environment :)

Lets see if you can solve this before our citrix guy does:

Can't login to citrix via the Web Interface. When at the login.aspx page, after the clicking the login button, the login operation will never complete. The only message in the event viewer is "An exception occured while reading from the socket CitrixPooledSocket(182:Key()) java.io.Exception: Timeout"

According to http://support.citrix.com/article/CTX111057 this error is benign; however still can't login to citrix, so it can't be that benign.

What is the point of Citrix, anyway? Can't you just use Terminal Services instead for most applications instead nowadays?

All clients have this issue? Or just certain people?

ICA>RDP

Compressed Traffic Flow + Featurettes, Citrix has printing down moreso then Terminal Services, Secure Gateway + Web Interface are handy features (all of these are available with just standard licensing)

You can start to look into enterprise products such as Access Gateway, Password Manager, Netscaler, and Edgesight but really what Citrix offers is ease of administration for application delivery.

For a company of about 120 people, how viable is it to run citrix for all the software we need? (alot of old legacy crap)

Also, does citrix offer application linking like it seems that Thinstall (thinapp) is going to offer? (so that you can have one app interface with another app)

Easy Print in 2008 TS simplifies printing, and 2008 also has TS Gateway without requiring people to pay for additional Citrix licenses.

...Have you even read the white papers on TS 2008 "Simplified printing"

They essentially just copied Citrix and made a "universal driver" and allowed a virtual channel to burst printing up to 12k in bandwidth, reminder this is *STILL* using RDP (non compressed) session based, NOT ICA.

The verdict is still out in 2008 TS.

I don't know many enterprises exactly RUSHING to Terminal Server 2008 for a reason, it's not proven.

End of story.

Turn off socket pooling on the WI server and see if that fixes it.

If by legacy you mean 16bit then I would probably, without knowing more about your specific environment, suggest Citrix may not be the best solution.

Old visual basic programs, probably 16bit.

Yeah, those are iffy. They might run ok in an application isolation environemnt (AIE) in Citrix, but probably more time and trouble plus cost than it is worth.

CPS is no more.. it's XenApp now.

Does that mean you have to go back for another certification?

I am getting ready to add ssl to our citrix enviroment which users access via the web interface. Other than just adding the cert into IIS what needs to be done for citrix to use said cert?

Will you be using Citrix Securegateway? I recommend it, this ensures secured return taffic to the client device, all 1494/session reliability traffic encapsulates into 443 traffic to the client, the only traffic NOT secure is the connection between the Web Interface and the ZDC of the farm, which can be locked down with new SG.

How many servers do you? How many users? How big are these apps? Will they access it from home?

When using a SQL based farm, how do you move it from one machine to another without reinstalling/reactivating the licenses.

How long can a Citrix server be out of contact with the licenses before it deactivates?

Why do Citrix licenses now eat up TS licenses as well, when both are installed?

1) http://support.citrix.com/article/CTX104941

2) Depends, Advanced, Enterprise or Standard Licensing, Standard and Advanced 45 days, Enterprise 90 days.

3) ICA uses functions from RDP actually when it does this it requires a license for TS, always will. This is the reason why Ed Ioabuci (Im sure Im spelling his name wrong) got into a contract with Microsoft back in the days of WinFrame, they needed the licensing.
