all of the above aren't really known for their reliability. look for a camry/accord/altima.

price and space are big issues - i am not the smallest guy in the world, at 6'6" and 300lbs. I had to learn yoga to fit into and drive my brother's 96' accord. I hear the newer accords and camrys (98 and above) are bigger, but they are out of my price range. Altimas i dont think i fit into comfortably.

Well hello my brother. I am 6' 4" 375. Your going to have to buy a town car, or a g20 conversion van like i ended up doing. All kinds of space and head room. You can get a g20 with a 4.3 v6 np in your price rance with captin chairs, tv, vcr, and get decent mpg.

I owned a Old cutlass 1998 same body as the malibu so forget looking in that range and have leg room. the ONLY car if you need a car I would suggest a honda or acura with your size. They have killer leg room just not much on the head room unless you tilt the seat back a little. My old accord having the seat all the way back was to far :p

I think just get the newest. Gawd, 1997 was in another age. There were dinasaurs around then. Think what people and time did to that car in so many years.

I been researching used cars for a decent time now, and I wouldn't recommend buying one older than 4-5 years. By that time all the main systems will be worn out so much it would barely give you a decent mileage before some serious malfunction that will cost more than the car itself to repair.

But in the end a used car is a better choice on all ends, if you're not too proud of course (I'm not). I mean, you could get say a few years old real car that will last eternity or a new piece of junk that will cost the same and which will look cheap!

My Lincoln's 10 years old. No failures or issues and I get 26 mpg at 75-80 mph on the freeway. The 944 is 16 and it's still in great shape too, no issues.

Take care of a car and it'll last forever.

Does the 99 Oldsmobile even have the 3.8L V6 "shortstar" ? The 3.8 is quite peppy. We have the 2003 model Intrigue. Vastly more torque than my puny 2.2L Prelude.

Can't find a Dodge Intrepid or maybe Crown Vic or Buick of some sort? Those should all give you a bit of room and not be terribly expensive.

a crown vic is a definate possibility... haven't found one locally for the right price, yet.. no one would want to pass me, though

buick.. depends on the model. most look like piles of crap to me.

I voted for "other." $4000+ on a GM car is almost equivalent to $10,000 since in 2 years you will have spent that much on repairs...if the car even still runs. For $10,000 you can get a real car.
