i hope this doesn't get locked...

1) can asian ps2 play american ps1 games?
2) can asian ps2 play american ps2 games?
3) can asian ps2 play backup *cough*burns*cough* ps1 games?
4) can asian ps2 play backup *cough*burns*cough* ps2 games?
5) can asian ps2 play region 1 dvds?
6) can asian ps2 play region-free dvds?
7) is there any kind of power adapter needed?

Yes to #1 and #2? Im not so sure about that, you'll definitely need to mod chip to play ANYTHING other than Japanese version of games, that includes #3 and #4. As for #7, yes you'll need an AC adapter, the Japanese version uses 220V, the US version is 110V, you'll need an AC that changes 220V to 110V. I tried to play my US version PSX on a 220V power and it almost killed my PSX.

i'm just confused now... i called up one of the more reputable mod chip distributors and he said that i'm better off waiting around till i get my grubby hands on an american PS2 then mod it as opposed to getting one from Hong Kong and modding it...
