Sorry to change the subject a bit but I noticed kjackson has a Antec 430 TRue Power PSU. I was told my true blue psu by Antec will not work on my Asus SLI mb? Could someone help me with this? Thanks in advance.

Yeah, those drivers you installed are only for the nVidia based video card. The nForce 4 chipset is the "controller chipset" integrated into the motherboard that controls all the system functions. The video drivers are commonly referred to as "ForceWare" and the nForce 4 drivers are usually referred to as "nForce" or "unified" drivers.

There are about a million threads by now covering / arguing about what PSU's will work or not with the A8N. Most are pretty recent. Just search a little and post your question on one of those. Also, be a little more specific as to why the person said it wouldn't work.

**Edit**

My power supply works fine, no problems so far. After initial boot, motherboard CD drivers were installed then Windows XP was installed (updated to SP 2)

Kjackson, THanks for the reply. Are you using a 20-24 adapter or are you just plugging in the psu's 20 into the 24 on motherboard, thus not using the 4 extra pins? I guess it wouldnt be a factor unless you bumped up to 2 6800 gt's w/ the 6 pin connectors which our Antec psu's don't have. Thanks again

I connected the 20pin cable to the 24 pin slot on the motherboard leaving the 4 pins open (this is as per Antec's direction). I chose not to use the adapter, from what I have read the adapter can cause you problems.

If I were to run 2x6800GT cards I would definetely upgrade the power supply. But right now I only have the 6600GT card so no issues at all.

Cheers,

Kerry

What;s the diference between the Chipset_64 and the Chipset_XP&2K_1 versions? Is the firstone for 64bit windows XP only?

I did not download chipset drivers from the Asus site. The only thing I downloaded from the Asus site was the BIOS 1003 Final uprgrade, which I did after everything was working fine.

This is the most relavant thread I have found to possibly answer my query after hours of trawling...

Like the originator of the thread, I'm about to purchase my components, which is similar to most of you who have posted here...

AMD (Winchester) Athlon 64bit 3000+ 939pin (stock heatskin/fan)
Asus A8N SLI (plain)
2xCrucial 512mb DDR 400MHz PC3200 CL=3 Memory Module
MSI 128MB nVidia Geforce 6600GT PCI-E
Antec TRUE430PGB True Power
LG GSA4163B 16x DVD R/RW/RAM Internal
Hitachi Deskstar 120GB 7200rpm SATA100 8MB Cache

Like alot of people, I have been pondering the PSU compatibilty. It seems the Antec TRUE430PGB would be ok for my spec, but I am hoping to overclock a little and put in another 6600GT in the future. The Asus A8N-SLI FAQ http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/topic/38623/ says my PSU should cope, but I have read many posts saying the opposite. I'd rather have a stable machine over OC.

Will the Antec TRUE430PGB True Power be suitable for 2 x 6600GT and will I need to get any adapters/extra cables or generally do any dodgy things with cables/pins?

Thanks in advance!

There was a great thread with a link to a step by step build (not using an A8N-SLI though) in case this is your first build. Just run a search on "system build guide" or something like that on AT forums. It helped me a lot and I have had no problems.
