The cheapest blinds available have flimsy metal slats. At least these are solid.

They weren't cheap and had to be custom cut. =) We had to get 'not cheap' blinds because of cats.

Cheap blinds are flimsy. These faux wood blinds are very solid. I could have picked up cheap blinds for about $5. These were approx $40 per set. Not terribly expensive but worth the extra cost.
