Ascension (mini series)

On SyFy, miniseries, going on right now.

Interesting concept, a "real" sci-fi show again.

What do you think?

At first I was like...meh it's just a drama in space...but
I never saw the twist coming
So now I am still intrigued. It has much higher production value than most SyFy things.

Well 'real' just went out the window. It could have been a very realistic and interesting approach to a social experiment, but the latest 'twist' threw all that out the window and isn't really Sci-Fi.

They had a fine 3... (6?) episodes... problem is if they could keep that level of energy and intrigue running for an entire season. Which, would hopefully be ~16 episodes.

On my DVR to watch, it's only a mini-series but I'm hoping it turns out good and they bring it back for a longer run

Without giving away any spoilers, how does this compare to Helix/Continuum?

It's a 3 episode mini series so not really comparible. In terms of SyFy movies, the budget was obviously higher than most. Production is high and acting is good. The story is interesting but it jumps the shark out of sci-fi territory in the 2nd episode. I haven't watched the 3rd yet.

it goes back to Sci fi when true nature of experiment is revealed...in the very last minute/scene.

I'll watch it this weekend. I would rather have a solid 3 episodes vs one or two good ones and 10 more episodes of junk.

😵

This was about average at best. If you didn't see it, you didn't miss much.
Nothing at all memorable about this mini-series.

I think this is a good as it gets on SyFy. In the relative, not absolute sense. For some reason SyFy keeps chasing viewers with low attention span. However shows that had the most popularity there were ones with story arcs.
So they try to find balance between geeks and casual watchers, but usually it just alienates first group.
This is one of shows that remind of their golden age: BSG + SG-1

Here's the thing. Since I was a child, I've had a fantasy to... wait, spoiler tags:

To create villages of people from historical periods and cultures, like Rome, where the people in the village - who realistically could well never have gone far from the village - don't know they're part of a simulated society - they think they are part of Rome, or wherever, in whatever time. The village is set up to have the technology, the language, and so on of the time by people who are 'in' on the situation, and gradually that shifts to a native population.

They would be monitored from the outside, learning how they live.

So, this show hit pretty close to home. I'm not crazy about the acting, but like parts.

It was good - right up until
the big reveal at the end.

Now it's going to quickly turn into "lost" or any one of a dozen other soap operas. Who's controlling who, who's contacting who inside and outside, who really knows if they're in a spaceship or not blah blah blah. The second we knew it wasn't in space any more it became yet another stupid 'human drama'. Might as well be a daytime soap.

The final episode had me wishing I didn't waste my time with the first 5 episodes to be honest, the show had potential but fell flat in the end, reminded me of the way Lost ended! 😡

Mixed feelings - I really liked a lot about the show, and was disappointed in parts. Especially some plot holes overusing coincidence.

- Three seconds left on the bomb, really?

- Taking the gun away from the agent, really?

- She just happens to visit the cell at exact moment he became free?

- The Directory put herself of being pushed off that edge by that guy? And so on.

There was a lot of unresolved left in the wind things. I wonder if this is going to be a continuing yearly mini series? I'd at least continue to see what unfolds.

Watched it today and thought it was just ok. I didn't know anything about the show going in and was a little let down. It was just drama in a spaceship.

I mean lots of drama. Drama out the ass drama.

Don't forget the fake sex...lots of fake sex...I don't see it continuing but they sure left it open to

Its one of those shows that I'll watch if I have nothing else to see, but I actually forgot I watched it when I saw this thread bumped. It could have been better, and its not worth hating on. If meh was a rating that would be appropriate.

I tried, honestly I did, SE1E a good 30 minutes the above sums it up perfectly.

Only watched pilot but now i feel the whole show is ruined. Throw the twist out right off the bat? Plus i saw it coming which didnt help.
