College was playtime compared to the crap I'm doing now. I can still remember the days when I could wake up at 11am for class, and be back by 2pm to do whatever the hell I want until 9pm.

This, except my commute is only 10 mins (love living in the city). The crap that my parents said about having time to play later and to study and work now is a bunch of BS.

Amen to that. I should have had more fun in college. I only worked about 20 hours a week and I still didn't have much free time at all.

My commute is 40 min but luckily I can take one of the mass transit systems that actually exists in Los Angeles. This does mean I'm up early and tied to someone elses schedule.

I had a day off yesterday to watch some competitive road racing at a local race track. It made me realize what a sucker I am for working 5 days a week, 8 hours a day. There should be so much more to life.

it all goes down hill after college. kiss your free time goodbye. I got 4.5 hours of sleep last night (up at 5 AM and didn't walk back in my house until 11:30 PM), 5 hours of sleep the night before.

College was a bad, dull, boring experience for me, but maybe it was because I went to a city college and I was not one of those people away on campus somewhere. Best time of my life was when I was young and some in high school. I don't believe college should be the best time of your life. Once you get a steady job, you can have fun and do whatever you want. Scheduling stuff in advance and trying to please everyone is completely up to you, no one is holding a gun to your head and preventing you from doing what you want.

Personally I am more introverted so I do my own things, and if I want to do things with people I call them up, don't really spend my time waiting around for things to happen, and I sure as hell don't schedule stuff with anyone, because I find most people are pretty inconsistent, they like making plans but never go through with them.

You meet so many people who want to do so many things that it gets to a point where your weekends are booked two weeks in advance, weekdays are already occupied by work or school, and any free time you have is measured in minutes, not hours. I think I'm looking forward to getting done with college. My parents said college was the best time of their life. I don't think that should be true... you don't have to be in college to have fun or have a life.

Did (or does) this happen to anyone else?

hah, wait until you start your career

I barely have time for myself even on the weekends

This is really my motivation for starting my own business. I work on my terms and do my own thing. I'm really hoping it works out well for me. I watched Office Space a couple of years ago for the first time and it really changed my perspective on "the working world" -- even if it is a comedy. There really is more to life than sitting around working 9-5, five days a week....

College is the biggest time waster ever, BUT jobs require it so you have to go with that, but it's not what will help you on the job - experience will.

I've been out of college for over a year and I find myself with way more time on my hands then when I was in college. It's great since I have all these personal projects that I can finally put lot of work into. Friday nights are prime time for coding since after 11:00 it's relatively quiet in the house, and I tend to be more concentration late at night. I find I have more time to go out as well since I don't have all sorts of college related things on my mind. Graduating from college is like dropping a 100 pound bar bell after walking 100's of miles with it. It's a relief.

I agree that college was a waste of time. Experience seems to be much more valuable. Listing a degree only takes up one line on the a resume.

The only weight that gets lifted after college is the homework. Then again I guess it varies by job. I'm just over two years out of college and have yet to work at a job that I take home baggage from.

That my change though.

LOL, start you own business and I bet you BEG for a 40 hours work-week.

I went back to school for a professional degree while I was working fulltime and had a newborn. I think I counted free-time in minutes per week. Now the kids are in bed by 8 and my wife and I usually get a few hours each night. If my kids are awake, I can't even shit without being interrupted.

This morning while I was in the shower my 5 yo walked into the bathroom and announced he had to "poop" and then proceeded to take care of business. He did ask me to look at the "big pile" that he was so proud of while I was drying myself off.

That I'll agree with. It almost sounded like he was trying to brag.

lol!

Until you're actually part of "the working world" you have no idea...

Do you work now? Because you seem pretty naive about the whole subject.

If you honestly think you're going to start a business and work less than 40 hours/week then you're sorely mistaken.

Ha, the crap job I'm at right now has me formating other people's company/professional resumes. Education is about 4 lines on the sidebar, 3 of the lines are the school, location and year of graduation. The main body is all experience and projects. Some people have a lot of variety, even though they only got a diploma, and some went back to school to get a masters or bachelors years after finishing their initial post-secondary program. Still, it's sad, but despite all that experience, you're almost inclined to check where they went to school and what program they did before you validate everything else.

lol, if you think you don't have time in college, wait until you get a real job.

I can't believe all the free time I had in college. And that was taking an average of 19 hours a semester and being in the marching band(which takes 2 hours a day) and having a part time job.

I had plenty of extra time, now I hardly have any.

Well, I have a "real" job, and I rarely put in more than 40 hours per week, and have a 20 minute commute each way.

If you actually do your homework, you have no time in college. If you're just a party person then yeah sure you have time, but you're probably failing courses and spending more time there then you need.

Most jobs pay by the hour. When you're shift is over, it's over. You go home and do what you want. If your job is not like that then you're in the wrong field. Of course, there are "on call" type jobs and exeptions where you need to work overtime, but it sure beats having 10 hours of home work every night and not get paid for it.
