So, as I've gone through my college career (and still have a year left), I've noticed that it increasingly becomes very difficult to make time for yourself. You meet so many people who want to do so many things that it gets to a point where your weekends are booked two weeks in advance, weekdays are already occupied by work or school, and any free time you have is measured in minutes, not hours. I think I'm looking forward to getting done with college. My parents said college was the best time of their life. I don't think that should be true... you don't have to be in college to have fun or have a life.

Did (or does) this happen to anyone else?

Yeah, I remember within 4 months of starting Uni I would have *something* planned mon-fri (even if it was a just 1-3 hour event) plus weekends booked hell of in advance. You also quickly seem to develop friendships with certain friends to the point where you just *expect* to hang out.

Personally, I'm an extremely social person though, so I love it ;)

I was working too much and actually concentrating on my grades. An overbooked social schedule was the least of my worries.

I feel that way now, and I know it radically changes after kids.
Do you even have time for one hobby with kids?

I think it is great having a social life. But I definitely do wish I had some time to myself once in a while. I try not to book my Saturdays anymore so I can focus on doing stuff _I_ want to do, instead of what a group wants to do. I mostly use it for playing guitar and recording music :) or video games :)

Haha, I'm only 22 so I don't plan on having kids (or even getting married eeuugghhh...) until I'm at least... 30.

If you think college is bad, wait until you're chained to your desk 8 hours day with a 2 hours commute both ways. If you want to wait up remotely awake, then you've got about 4-5 hours a night to yourself; not including dinner time.

College was playtime compared to the crap I'm doing now. I can still remember the days when I could wake up at 11am for class, and be back by 2pm to do whatever the hell I want until 9pm.

If you really want some time to yourself, it's OK to tell your friends you're staying in every once in awhile.

I'm really hoping to start my own business by the time college is over for me. At least then I can work when I want, or when I need to. But I know what you mean... it is definitely spectacular waking up at noon then going to class, and coming home and doing nothing!! :D

I'm really hoping to start my own business by the time college is over for me. At least then I can work when I want, or when I need to. But I know what you mean... it is definitely spectacular waking up at noon then going to class, and coming home and doing nothing!! :D

From what I hear, you typically work even more when you have your own business than when you work for someone else (or at least for a few years, depending on success).

At least when you are doing something you love, it doesn't really seem like "work", I suppose. And I guess you CAN work your own hours... we'll see how it works out. I'm working on the business plan now.

This, except my commute is only 10 mins (love living in the city). The crap that my parents said about having time to play later and to study and work now is a bunch of BS.
