Ok, I was able to boot the PC3200 stick at 400MHz with 2-3-3-7. It got into Windows and seemed to be doing fine. Then I ran Memtest 3.0 to make sure. That's where it all went downhill.

400MHz at 2-3-3-7, which is what it is advertised as (CAS2), generated over 100,000 errors.
375MHz at 1.5-2-2-7, which is what I was running and thought to be stable, generated over 1000 errors.
375MHz at 2-3-3-7 also generated over 1000 errors.

In short, this memory that is advertised as PC3200 DDR400 CAS2, does not perform as such. I will most definitely be calling them now, and demanding my money back. For those of you who think the memory is running fine in your machines, as I had thought it was in my machine, make sure you run Memtest to see if there are any errors. Bad memory can lead to corrupted hard drives in some cases.

Just an update...

@400MHz my 512MB VData sticks are running fine at 2,3,3,4 with no errors according to Memtest. As a side note, this is with 2 sticks of this RAM in my A7N8X board.

Appears to run stable at the advertised speeds/timings for me when set up with 2 sticks in place which usually has timing problems at CAS2.

Oops, sorry about that last post... wasn't paying attention.

I RMA'd the RAM today. I got a full refund, including the shipping. I'd say that was pretty big of Hardcorecooling.com

My personal opinion of this whole thing is that HCC just didn't pay attention to what they were shipping out to people. Because they're willing to fix this problem for anyone, I'd say that I'm pretty sure they weren't out to dick anyone.

Crap happens, oh well.

very glad to hear it yakitori, please update your reseller rating for them if you feel its warranted as i would hate for a descent outfit be placed on the "AVOID AT ALL COST LIST" as there arent many left that will stand behind their policy, product, etc. without a bunch of small print mumbo jumbo. good luck with your next purchase

Yeah, that right there sums up a quality online company and quality customer service! Even though I didn't get what I ordered, I'm keeping it because it performs exactly as it was advertised (better actually) plus they really do have top notch customer service. If it ever stops performing as advertised, then I know that they will be more than happy to replace it for me at their cost.

So, basically they appear to be a good business with honorable terms - either trying their best to fill your order, even if it is not exactly what you ordered, and if you don't like it, they will take it back at no cost to you? And those of us that did get the performance we desired for a decent price are happy?

Gee, kinda sounds like what I've been saying all along, and why I originally posted this.

Funny thing is that they say TRUE 400MHz DDR, not that overclocked garbage... Well, guess what? They are the ones selling overclocked garbage!

What are you guys saying??????

They purposefully sent out different sticks than what was ordered.
They did not make a mistake. They did not cancel orders. Bait and switch was used.
After being busted for screwing over buyers, and knowing that they
"MUST RETURN ALL MONEY ANYWAY", including shipping, then they tried to save face.
If they had not refunded all, they would have had a losing legal battle, possible criminal charges, as well as rejected credit card payments.
They must send out return pre-paid shipping labels to all customers, or tell them to keep the wrong sticks, plus give full refund.

The deal was luke warm at it's best, and dropped to ice cold when they pulled the switch game.

They were caught with their pants down, and now you all say they are A O.K.?

There are ton's of honest venders that have similar prices, so losing these guys is a blessing.

EDIT:
As pointed out prior, currently the best memory "today" is made by Corsair and Twinmos.
So for those still looking for a memory deal on good sticks from a good company, check out this thread:
Twinmos PC3200 $59
Comparison review of Twinmos Vs Corsair
Or just look in forums dedicated to your motherboard, and chances are you will see the Twinmos from memoryx as the sticks of choice.

Thats nice that you're happy with their service but there are many who are not, including myself. Blatantly lying in the descriptions doesn't really constitute a honest company. "All Memory Pre-Tested Before Shipping"....ha...yeah right. It doesn't matter if they have good ratings, when a company screws you a company screws you.

So, the blantly lying was where they changed their description on the web site when they found they could not get Winbond chips? Or is the blant lie where they cheerfully refunded the money if you were not happy with your purchase?

You must be. You've bumped this "deal" 30 times now. I think that's a record.

Neither, maybe you should have read my post more closely. "All Memory Pre-Tested Before Shipping". They must let the two bad sticks that I got through because I'm pretty sure the ones I received weren't pretested.

My sticks were pretested and perform better than advertised with reputable chips. Hell, they perform better than advertised when 2 sticks are put in at the same time. No complaints here.

EDIT: I know somebody's gonna ask. You can tell whether your sticks are pretested, used, or never-been-tested-or-used by looking at the traces and the amount of wear on them. My sticks were pretested.

I hate to bump a possible bad deal..I got these a few weeks ago, almost at the beginning of the month. I'm just getting the rest of the computer next week..any way to tell if these are Winbond, OZC, or what not without sticking them in?

I hope I got the good stuff...Even if it does the advertised speeds, I will be happy.

you will be fine Gariig... i just got another stick of teh 3500 and it too is singing along just fine @ 199 fsb c2. this was a heated thread to say the least and rightfully so as there were inconsistancies where hardcorecooling was concerned but they did everything they could in my opinion to make those who werent happy - less unhappy :)

also, you probably got vdata chips because after the whole blow up i checked mine and i had vdata too. of course i wouldn't bitch about not getting winbond with the speed my system is stable at. i forgot to post the fact that i burnt-up the first stick of memory i got from them (bad dimm slot i believe - or seated wrong). i started smelling something burning and turned off the system and after searching a while i could tell it was the memory. i took it out and the gold leads were torched on about 5 pins. i have no idea how it happened other than me seating it wrong or my dimm slot going out b/c the memory itself had run for weeks without issue in the first two dimm slots.

anyways, i called them and told the guy about it and he told me to send it in and they would try to see if it was my fault or theirs. i told the guy the truth that the memory had run for weeks and i tried it in a different dimm slot on my mobo and thats when my pc started smoking. the guy told me to send it in although he didn't think it was a problem on their part. he asked me if it had been over a month since i bought it and i told him no and he told me its covered under some warrantee they had and to send it in for another stick!!! can i get a woot!!!

well, needless to say i have either been lucky or the guy likes my voice or something b/c i can't say anything bad about them. so when you get you memory Gariig set sit sto (spd) in the bios and you will be fine and if youre not call them and they will make it right - this has been my experience anyways :)

I did not want to be accused of posting to this just to "bump" it, but now that it has been updated anyway, here is what has occured. My first stick was indeed the Winbond, and runs as advertised, and I had ordered some of the OCZ. The first OCZ chip to arrive had a tiny little piece of plastic with 3 metal leads on either side lose in the package, and it SPD automatically set it to DDR266, not DDR400. Once manually set to DDR it would run fine, but I RMA'ed the stick, and the 2nd was fine. Here are the relevant items speeds with one stick of OCZ PC3200 in the first slot, and the PC3200 Winbond in the 2nd slot from Sandra:

Logical/Chipset Memory Banks
Bank 0 Setting : 256MB DDR-SDRAM 7-1-1-1R 4-1-1-1W 2.0-3-3CL 1CMD
Bank 1 Setting : 256MB DDR-SDRAM 7-1-1-1R 4-1-1-1W 2.0-3-3CL 1CMD
Bank 2 Setting : 256MB DDR-SDRAM 7-1-1-1R 4-1-1-1W 2.0-3-3CL 1CMD
Bank 3 Setting : 256MB DDR-SDRAM 7-1-1-1R 4-1-1-1W 2.0-3-3CL 1CMD
Bank Interleave : 4-way
Speed : 2x 201MHz (402MHz data rate)
Multiplier : 1.5x
Power Down Mode : No
Fixed Hole Present : No

Memory Module(s)
Memory Module 1 : 512MB 16x(32Mx8) DDR-SDRAM PC3200U-244 (CL2.5 upto 200MHz) (CL2 upto 200MHz)
Memory Module 2 : 512MB 16x(32Mx8) DDR-SDRAM PC3200U-2544-700 (CL2.5 upto 200MHz) (CL2 upto 100MHz)

So, all the memory is running as advertised, and I have had excellent service in all cases. In fact twice I have had my order shipped 2nd day UPS at no cost to me, once because they had been out of stock for a week, and the 2nd for the re-ship.

I can't vouch for the V-data chips personally, although I've heard good things about them virtually everywhere. But I can again state that I've had no problems with Hardcorecooling.com, and their customer service has been above reproach.

I see you've had a much better experience with them than I have, my RMA stick shipped ups ground so it took a week to get to me, and plus the ram wasn't work as advertised. But I don't think they're trying to screw me (at least I hope not) but I'd still like them to hurry up on the refund though
