Question: Did you "Hunt" it or "Bait and Wait"?

I don't have a problem with people hunting etc. but a friend of mine and I were arguing over the point that most "hunters" don't really hunt... they lay out bait, and they wait for the deer to come along.

We finally just agreed that the bait and wait was just a different form of hunting.

congrats on the "basket 8". Is that a live photo of the same deer you shot? Any idea what it weighed after dressing it out?

I'm guessing you took it with a shotgun(slug) or rifle, given that most states are in the middle of gun season right now.

Hunting animals suck unless you're going to eat the meat and use everything else.

He will probably eat it, and toss the bones + hide. Maybe he will sell the hide, perhaps he will make some fashionable shoes, who knows!

Most of you people don't realize that hunting is necessary to control the deer population. It's either shoot them and they die quickly, or let them starve to death after they overshoot the capacity of their environment.

QFT... we have killed off too many of their natural predators. The only way to control deer population is hunting. Venison is good anyways.

Points = antler points? Or is there some sort of point system among hunters based on weight? Anyway if you have too much venison to eat, send some my way 😀

My brother in law shot a moose and then a couple weeks later, a deer. So my inlaws freezer is stuffed to the gills with meat. I've got a pile of moose meat in my freezer that they gave me, its saving me a ton of money not having to buy red meat whenever we go grocery shopping.

We'll probably pick up some more and some of the venison when we go up there again for christmas.

IIRC you are correct. pts = antler pts.

any bowhunters here? i used to work with a guy that was an excellent bowhunter. seems like it would be a lot harder, since your first shot pretty much has to be the money shot.
