As of the Year 2002, what are the remaining FREE light use ISPs ?

I have a friend who wants minimal internet access so as to check a Yahoo email account, which I will set up for her, so as to have a separate account from her office email account.

Instead of paying Earthlink $22 a month, (and I tried to reach them on Sunday night and it seems their sales support is not what it used to be ? long ring and no answer) it would seem that she could log in from Tampa/Clearwater, FL with Netzero or Juno for under 10 hours a month for free ?

She does a bit of traveling, so the national coverage of these two would be helpful, does this seem the most appropriate route ?

First of all, Jeff, welcome to the forum. You should just know-before everyone starts flaming you- is that this forum is supposed to be for hot deals that you know about and want to share with the public-not for hot deals you are looking for. This thread will probablty get locked soon but I hope you read this anyway. The moderators have made a special thread called "I wanna" for thi stype of post.

As far as your question, if you look on www.freedomlist.com you should fnid a bunch of very cheap ISP's. I think that Florida does have a pretty good free ISP but you have to check it out.

I hope you find what you are looking for but please refrain from posting requests in this "hot deals" forum.

I think that two nationwide ones are Juno.com and netzero.com...........probably about 10 hrs per month for free.

I have accesscheap.net for $60 for the whole year. Works great since they use Worldcom other isp numbers.

This would be perfect, assuming these ISPs have dial up access numbers for the areas she's in.

Evening. Yeah but that usually requires a library card membership to that local library, not in all cases but usually.

Here is something to check out. Vtech PostBox

A few weeks ago, Radio Shack B&M had it for free after rebate. Cost is around $8.33 per month with an 800 dial in number. Big disadvantage is 2 year committment with only one year warranty.

Oh, also it suppose to use one of yahoo mail service, I believe.

Netzero Platinum $9.95 a month ok...gack I hate NetZero...I miss Lycos' and AltaVista's free dialup still even tho I'm on ADSL

It would appear that Netzero and Juno are the choices.

As an alternative to Earthlink's $22 a month, Surfbest has unlimited for $12.50, and
is a "true" ISP. Full featured, Dun, 2 emails, newsgroups, and no dialer needed..
Access numbers everywhere.
Not free, but worth the extra money to avoid the hassles.
Since I switched to DSL, I can't use them, but still hook up all my friends with them.

netzero is around, but for how long?!

fry's actually aint bad, but u get what u pay for. first of all they switch dialing-in phone numbers on me without notifying me, so i'm sitting there trying to connect, assuming their servers are down (which also happens often). i had to connect to netzero, then find out they changed to a new dial-in number. also on jan 1st its like their server's reset or somethin and i couldnt log on for days... i cant tell which is faster, net zero or fry's and that's including the fact that netzero has ads!

boy am i glad im using government subsidized broadband now... of course i pay for it in high tuition! not to mention $400 in books per quarter.

threr are a few services out there that cost $10 a month. I use yellowstone.net. Very easy to use.

While we are on the subject, Slycat, can you provide a link to the AT&T $5 offer, I do not find it on their site.

Regarding Walmart, amazingly thier site lists the top speeds at 28.8. ( ? )

AT&T has discontinued their $4.95 plan (I495). I looked at it, once. At the time, I figured there was no sense in paying for banners when I could get a free accoun if I wanted all that garbage on my screen.
