at newegg on an amd xp 2500+ barton, I was held back by the ghosts of people who have told me I'm better off spending a few dollars more on the xp 2600+/333.

Here are the prices:

AMD ATHLON XP 2600 /333 FSB PROCESSOR CPU- OEM ---------------- $96.00

AMD ATHLON XP 2500 "Barton" 333 FSB PROCESSOR CPU- OEM -------- $86.00

I'll be putting it in an Epox 8RDA+ with 512mb kingston hyperx pc3200 ddr400 and will oc the fsb, but nothing too extreme. PC used mostly for digital video and image editing, heavy webbrowsing, general office apps, lots of multitasking, downloading porn, etc. I'm not much of a gamer.

Please help me make my decision so I don't get buyer's remorse. Thanks.

I'd say troubling contact with the undead is a bigger problem than trying to decide which CPU to buy...

But seriously, just ask yourself: Am I willing to pay 12% more for a processor that performs 4% better?
