Hoss is engaged!
Been going out with my fiance for nigh on six and a half years now and figured I'd better get on the ball. For any of those interested, here's the story:
Both of us are actors and we were both in a production of Oklahoma since August. Great, friendly cast with a lot of newfound friends. Well, after the last show a couple weeks ago, the stage manager announced that we needed to stay on stage for a cast photo. The curtain came in, the audience cleared out and we arranged ourselves on the set. I stood up near my girlfriend at the time. After a couple shots, I asked "Is everyone here?" and the sound man turned up my microphone. I'd been very ill with hardly a voice so everyone thought it was a joke. I then said "I just wanted to thank everyone for a great show. You've all been great friends a great bunch of people; I feel honored to have worked with you all. I don't think I've been with such a great cast since I was in college and did Falsettos'". Just then, we hear a piano start vamping over the sound system. It's the beginning to "A Marraige Proposal" from Falsettos. I turn to her and start singing "I love you dear..." and then the waterworks begin as she realizes what is happening. The cast, already in tears from having to let the show go, starts to hoot as they, too, get it. I continue to sing, crying myself, yet the performer in me was thinking "Ok, here comes a funny part, I gotta pull myself together". Surprisingly, I got through the whole thing. Another member of the cast has a 6-year old boy who then came out in a cowboy hat and vest. His father said "Ok, say your line nice and loud so everyone can hear." The little cowboy then said "Hey partner, I think you forgot something" and handed a ring box up to me. I took it, turned, went to a knee and said "How bout marryin' me?" (A line from the show). She said "Of course".
Was better than I could have planned, and much different than I had. Wouldn't have it any other way.
