I have had nothing but problems over the last two years with HP warranty services. Among other issues all three times I have needed their 4 hour on site response they have failed to meet their obligations

Anyway - the other day I got a letter saying the warranty on one of our servers was expired despite having paid them several thousands of dollars to extend various warranties including that one. I looked at HP Care Pack Warranty Lookup and, sure enough, it was listed as expired 7 months early.

I sent them the order, the bill, the receipt and the actual email from HP stating the warranties were extended. The answer I got back from a Sales Account Manager was "It shows as expired on our system. Do you want me to send you renewal options?"

No I don't want fucking renewal information! I already did that in August!

Fortunately we ordered through CDW so I asked our rep to look into it. She sent a bunch of additional information to him and his boss. This was his response several hours later:

Apologies but it appears it was a system issue on our end, when I rebooted the database it came up as covered.

Uh-huh. I totally believe a Sales Account Manager rebooted the HP Care Pack Warranty database...

If you think that their hardware is bad, you should see their software!

I had the misfortune of evaluating HP Unified Functional Testing this week, and I've rarely seen an commercial application that is so bloated and flaky.

Pretty soon the plastic on HP printers is going to be so thin it'll be transparent. I think their next models will be made from Saran Wrap.

OP, we all have our own HP warranty horror stories to share. Mine has to do with a laptop that went belly up in 2007. This is the reason I no longer buy HP IT equipment (except the occasional printer).

Poor HP, they are their own worst enemy ...

Its a shame too. We still have some of the old Laserjet 5000s and those things are freakin tanks. I've been through several replacements of their M series but those 5000s just keep on going

I'm trying to get away from them as soon as possible but our life cycles are long and I haven't been able to find a Brother equivalent for all of our printer needs

How are their desktop PCs these days?
Tempted to order one for the parents because price is right.

I know to avoid their current printer lineup.

IMO their printers are still some of the best (Laser not inkjet).

I've recommended a few low end desktops for people and they are good so far.

That's a great idea, HP should make an inflatable inkjet!!!

I've had good luck with all our HP printers thus far. Had exactly one inkjet not work right about 2 weeks after install. Sadly, support was so frustrating I gave up and surplused the damn thing as it was easier than trying to rma it. Inkjets do seem to be worse than the lasers, which seem to go forever.

Nicest thing though is their printers work nicely with linux, hpcups, so because of that they've easily become my default.

We have HP workstations where I work. The motherboard died in mine a few months back. When the tech came out to replace it I had to remind him to plug the aux power back in to the video card. He couldn't figure out why it wouldn't boot. Then I had to wait another two weeks for another motherboard because the one he brought had two dead memory slots.

Never understood why people bought their crap. Didn't they have some insane failure rate for their laptops, 20%+?
