As a CS major, do I have an obligation to be an expert tech support?

The secret to tech support:

1. Reboot - didn't help?
2. Turn it off and wait x seconds then turn it back on - didn't help?
3. Reload the OS - and call back when done

Then you hope some else gets their next call!

I've been working with computers for 20 years and still find questions I can't answer off the top of my head (Thank God for Google!)

My brother recently called from a computer show and asked if a particular system was a good deal. Well, I said I'd need to know exactly what is inside then check prices on the Internet (pricewatch.com.) I said that you can get the mobo and cpu for about 150-$200, then add what other stuff you need. He called back in a few minutes and said they decided not to buy the computer, but rather have me build it for them. Aaarrrggghhhh!!! Next time I'll be ready with: "Yeah, it sounds like a great deal!" :)
