Artifacts in Half Life 2!!! ARGH!!! Radeon 9500 softmodded.. not overclocked

The first three days I played Half Life 2, I got NO artifacts whatsoever. Though, the sound would hiccup along with the graphics in certain places. Now, I get artifacts on and off. Sometimes, they're horrible and the game is unplayable. They look like the checkered artifacts that you get if your 9500 cannot be softmodded. However, for every other game I play, I get NO ARTIFACTS.

I even installed Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines which uses the Half Life 2 engine and I do not get artifacts at all in that game. Only in Half Life 2 do I get artifacts and only in the past few days. I tried turning off antialiasing and turning it on. I get artifacts both ways.

This is so goddamn frustrated. It's like they patched the game to include artifacts or something.

Anyone have any ideas how to get rid of the artifacts?

Someone posted a thread about some really bad texture glitches in HL2 earlier. I can't seem to find the thread though. Anyways, if it IS your softmod, then it just means that your softmod isn't 100% successful.

It is NOT the softmod. I just spent 2 hours trying to fix this issue. I tried using the ATI driver and the Omega drivers (without the softmod) and I still get artifacts.

I tried reinstalling Steam and Half Life 2 and I still get artifacts.

This is really pissing me off. Instead of playing the goddamn game, I gotta spend time troubleshooting.

I'm playing the game on my Emachines M6810 notebook with R9600 and it runs like a slug if you ask me...not too impressed so far at all 🙁
