artifacts in dos mode = bad hardware?

i just got this bfg 6800gt oc from ebay(370) and it gives me artifacts in dos mode before(and after)windows start up does that mean my video card is damaged?

if anyone has had a bad 6800gt please let me know what the sympthoms where so i can troubleshoot mine. thanks

It definitely is defective. Bad ram on the card causes the artifacting.

i allready did although i bought it with an nv5 silencer and voided the warranty.
i mounted the old double fan heatsik and sent it back to bfg do you think they'll find out if i had a nv5?

they sent me a new card! i'll recieve it today i don't know if ill want to mount the nv5 silencer though....
