Hi, I just recently bought an Asus 8800 GT 512 Mb, with Asus's revised cooler (same as the one they have on the overclocked TOP edition). I have been noticing some strangeness in certain games, and want to see if other people have experienced the same thing, due to drivers or some such thing. I upgraded from a 7900 GTO, and fully uninstalled the drivers and used driver sweeper. These problems occur with both Nvidia's 169.25's and 169.28's. I also made sure Direct X and my motherboard (Asus P5b) drivers are up to date. The card is at stock speeds.
In Crysis (newest patch), there have been a few areas, usually around edges of cliffs, where there is the texture is flickering or stretching out in a strange way. Occassionally in doorframes and shelfs there is little flickering boxes, too. In Titan Quest Immortal Throne (newest patch), sometimes there are little flickering boxes in shadowed areas, and once in a while all shadows on the screen give a little flicker. I have played UT3, Bioshock, and Lost planet with absolutely no artifacts or strangeness whatsover. I have really good case flow in my Antec p180 with a fan installed in front of the video card. My GPU temperatures never go above 65c load, 45c idle. I have even alt-tabbed to desktop when the artifacts occur, let the GPU cool down to 45c, and upon going back into the game the artifact is still there, so I don't think it's heat related. Atitool shows 0 errors after an hour of artifact scanning.
So, should I be concerned, or are there some common problems with drivers right now? I am past the two week return window from the store I bought it at. Should I format and reinstall windows?
