Artifact?? troubleshooting

I've had the below system running since christmas, all most recent drivers.

On a couple of games I noticed that I get no texture around either the charactor or the car.

Games affected:

NFS: U2
Farcry
Colin Mcrae 2005

All other games are not affected. I have tried three different Nvidia drivers. I havn't OC'd this system at all. All games affected have been tried with a fresh install plus with recent patchs.

The tempatures seem to be all OK, however one thing which is bothering me is the voltages from the PSU. I swopped out the Antec true silent 380w as the -12v was being reported as 1.34v?!?!?!?! And replaced it with the Akasa 400w. I've seen mentioned that I shuldn't rely on programs to tell me the voltages.

Does anyone know what this is as it's not the usuall artifacts I've seen on previous system
Specs:

XP SP2 (all updated)
Akasa 400w PSU daul 12v (14a&15a)
A64 3000+ Winchester retail @1.8
Gigabyte K8NF-9 (F2 bios version)
MSI 6600GT (stock)
1GB (2x512) corsair value 3200
Maxtor 160GB IDE
Seagate 120GB IDE

Although you have a Nvidia card I think you can use the ATITool "Artifact Detector", I'd give it a try for 15-20 minutes and see if you get artifacts.

If you do and your card is at stock speeds then definitely you have a problem, it could be driver, heat or power related.

Usually ATItools detects few artifacts even if you can't spot them at games or 3DMark, so if you are having artifacts in games I assume the ATItool test would give you artifacts shortly after starting the test.

If you try ATItool make sure you are reading it's results correctly. When you start the test the Title Bar of the window will display the time since you started the test. And the text inside the window will tell you the time passed since the last artifact was found. If your title bar tells you've been running for 10 minutes, then it should read "no artifacts found for 10 minutes", otherwise then you are having artifacts.

Since your card has a temp sensor and you say the temps are fine then I think you could rule out heat problems, thus you should concentrate on drivers or power issues. Also make sure your card is correctly seated on the port, there's nothing touching the chips or caps, etc.

That's all I can tell you, I'm sure there's a lot of 6600 GT owners here that can give you better advice.

Cheers.

I've ran 3dmark2005 on 20 'loops' and periodically checked the PC for five minutes at a time (during different tests) and found nothing unusual. (CPU stayed below 40 degrees, GPU was around 79-ish)

I got no problems on the rest of my games, just those mentioned; NFS: U2, Farcry & Colin Mcrae 2005.

I'll run the artifact test tonight and I'll see what I get. Are there any others test I could run??

I am thinking of a few things now;

1) Power (the 6600GT get all the power from the PCIx16 slot) - I there a way I can test that enough juice is getting to the card?

2)Apparently the 6600GT is the most 'advanced' GPU with HDR support with all the other stuff SM3, ultrashadow 2, etc. Perhaps one of these features were still in the infancy stage (ie: not 100% tested before release).

3)Directx 9.0c install (I got the 'proper' install, not one from a game)

I can't test the card in any other system as no-one I know has a PCI-E motherboard
