Artie Lange attempts suicide

Wow... stabbed himself nine times and still didn't die. They should have done him a favor and just given him too much morphine. I never really understood why people think he is funny, I've never seen the humor... and Stern... he is as low brow as they come, he is an even bigger mystery.

Wow, that's gotta be hard to stab yourself 9 times. Shooting yourself or OD'ing on drugs is kind of like a one and done thing.. it just takes getting the courage for a split second.

Fuck...I was afraid of this, he's been off the show for weeks now.

From the Howard Stern Show today:

Howard revealed that his hand has been forced by a story about Artie's suicide attempt in Page Six ("I was actually hoping it wouldn't come out.") and had to offer his comment: "I don't know what to think. I'm angry about it. I'm sad about it. I'm all over the place emotionally." Howard directed most of his anger at the worm who leaked the details of Artie's condition: "I'm pissed off at the shithead who got paid by – who? Page Six."

Howard hoped the story would go away and allow Artie to heal privately: "This is a family matter. I don't know what to do. I don't know what to say...just remember who Artie is and what a wonderful guy he is...he's wrestling with some serious stuff...I only wish him well." Howard tried reading the Page Six item, but stopped after just eight words: "I just feel sick about this. I don't even wanna read it."

THE STERN SHOW SENDS LOVE TO THE LANGE FAMILY

Howard repeated: "I don't want this to sound like a eulogy. Artie's alive, by the way. It was a suicide attempt." Howard added that he was unsure of Artie's future with the show ("I haven't spoken with Artie. Robin has. Tim has...I'm just freaked out. I don't know what to do. I figure if Artie wants to talk to me he'll call me.") and offered one final comment: "My thoughts go to his mother and his sister who I'm sure are in great pain."

being artie is hard

Fuck Stern and Lange...they have no problem making fun of people who have similar problems and now all of a sudden when it hits home he wants everyone to play nice? fuck 'em.

Lange is such a fuck up he can't even kill himself right.

This is rather morbid to think about but:

You don't really fail at attempting suicide.

You either commit suicide (after which you are dead)

Or you attempt suicide (after which you are alive).

I feel for the man as a human, he must be miserable attempting a normally permanent solution to a temporary problem.

That was my thought as well. Hypocritical in the extreme.

It wasn't a matter of Stern wanting everyone to "play nice." It was a matter of respecting the privacy of Lange and his family since they made a very specific statement saying they would deal with the situation in a private manner, then release statements as they deemed necessary.

Howard's pissed at whoever leaked this story because he cares about Artie and his family and it was a surreptitious act to give the story to the media and thus hurt Artie's mother and sister.

Anyone who's heard the show knows they ALL make fun of each other's problems, and Artie's drug addiction and depression has not been spared from Howard's banter.
