Fanboyism from Sony side really seems outta control right now. Is it just me or does it really seem like Sony fans are going nuts on just about every gaming site about the ps4 sales victory? These folks that post all day probably don't even own a ps4 yet. Just sick of the degrading comments from that side. I don't care who wins what, so long as there is competition.. Its good for everyone.

Wouldn't doubt if MS and Sony are directly behind it. You look at these people's sigs with promotion heavy banners, and spamming every thread you wonder how much they get paid for it.

I dunno where you are looking but no matter the subject I always see "...but with the indiestation 3.5 you dont get titanfall..." as the go to argument. I dont give a damn about titanfall but I can think of many other points in favor of the XB1 and ps4 if I try. It isn't so one sided at all.

nintendo is the only loser right now

both MS and sony will be fine, itll be close to 50/50 by no higher than 60/40 globally in favor of one or the other. Sure in some places like Japan MS has already lost but we already knew that and it doesnt matter

I want to see how China will go if they get into consoles. They finally opened it up for consoles to be sold there, and there have got to be a few people that would be interested in one of these consoles.

Are there plans yet to sell any there that you know of? I wonder if it would be easier for Japanese companies to be a foot in the door though vs MS.

I haven't seen any reports that there are plans, but if I were one of these companies I would be doing as much research as I could to see if there is a demand there.

European countries usually go PlayStation which is what helped them eventually catch up to Xbox 360 in sales. That plus the $100 will help it win in places that aren't 'Murica

PS3 comeback is pretty amazing. It was such a terrible launch the first 3-4 years of PS3 was bad. 360 was pretty much undisputed those first years.

Oh god the hype machine... More powerful than 1000 supercomputers, 4 HDMI 1080p outputs for multi mon....LMAO.

LOL. Sony definitely learned a bit of humility with that. Didn't hear squat about PS4.

Looking at the bigger picture, Microsoft is a financially stable company and Sony is not.
http://www.forbes.com/sites/maggiem...tphones-cannibalize-its-tv-and-pc-businesses/

Microsoft is stable because of Windows, Office, and enterprise, not because of its xbox division. There's even been some talk of ending xbox because it doesn't make much, if any, money. Sony NEEDS its videogame division because it's in such rough shape, elsewhere.

There is almost certainly going to be a PS5, but I wouldn't be so sure about another xbox.

I'm thinking this gen will turn out (US) in numbers of primary system buys :

PS4 50%
XB1 40%
WiiU 10%

Globally :

PS4 70%
XB1 20%
WiiU 10%

Multiple console buyers should make those numbers a little tighter.

If XB1 only reaches 20% of the global market, I could see M$ pulling the plug. It really doesn't make much sense for such a profitable company like microsoft spending so much money on a market that has such small profit margins. Especially if they can't grow their market share.

Cept with MS its not about selling consoles and games for profit. Its about getting a box that pipes a monopoly on content into people's living rooms shoving ads down their throat and nickel and dimming for services.

Aka MS isn't in it for the games any more than Google is in it to make cool cellphones. They couldn't care less about the games besides a easy carrot and stick way to get their foot into people's homes in a way Google only dreams of.

Not really sure where you get your data from, but Sony Games lost money last year. They did better than Sony Pictures, but the Games division was not a money maker for Sony last year. Sony Financial is where the profits were last year. 🙂

IMO they both fail for lack of BC. I will not be getting either one until I can no longer get titles for my 360 and ps3.

BC with such a radical architecture change and incremental leap in performance is an unrealistic expectation.

Console has closed the gap with PC and has pretty much unified and leveled out hardware wise. Gone are the days of drastically jumping from a 33 MHz system to a 3 GHz multi core system and trivial emulation or inclusion of the old system on a chip. You'd need a PS3/360 on a chip to be a coprocessor and wed have $600-700 consoles.

This isn't emulating a 7 MHz 68000 or including a 5 cent Z80 onboard anymore for BC. PS3 and 360 are some hefty machines still, both to emulate or to include hardware compatibility. Both tested the limit of what is feasible on a console as evidenced by the heat related YLOD/RROD problems.

The Wii U is still basically a GameCube at its heart with few changes. PS4 on the other hand is not just a PS3 overclocked with more RAM and a register compatible 1080p GPU. You'll note that the GameCube , Wii, and Wii U have all been substantially cheaper and less powerful than their respective generation competition, making BC more realistic if desired. At the time 360 and PS3 were pushing cutting edge silicon cramming before PCs even had dual core, Wii was using 5+ year old 1Ghz PPC chips. Adding a second core and maintaing BC is trivial. As would 360 if they kept Xenon and just added or forth core or Cell with 2 more SPUs.

Ironically nothing is stopping Wii U from natively running GameCube games except OS and lack of controller ports (and the desire to double dip and make people buy their games again and again on virtual consoles...)

hell yeah, let's all buy a ps4 and xbox1 to play 360 and ps3 games. sounds like a great idea.

Yeah $599-699 PS3 all over again!

Or...just buy a PS3/360 for $100 lol.

People like to talk smack about PS3/360 being old worn out outdated and long in the tooth but really have no respect for how cutting edge they were at launch and how powerful they still are other than the fillrate and ram limited gpus.

Dual core was barely a buzzword on PC when these launched. I recall as a diehard PC gamer then I was scared and waited a long time for Intel and AMD to catch up. How often does that happen?

Respect? What a peculiar word to use in this context.

Perhaps we should all pop out and buy a Voodoo 3dfx card out of respect of it's legacy as well.

Backwards compatibility is something that gets talked about pre-launch but really isn't a particularly big deal.

Yeah, going back to the SNES and Genesis...they didn't play previous games, neither did the N64, The 360 played some Xbox games via software but it was buggy for a long time. I think companies gauged the market for BC and found it to not be worth investing in. The PS3 dropped PS2 BC.

I know I don't want to play old games on a new system. I buy the new consoles for the new games that do things that couldn't be done on the old hardware.

If MSFT were to sell off their xbox division what company should
buy out the xbox division?

Xbox is obviously dead. Last holiday season MS sold over 3 million Xbox 360s and over 3 million Xbox Ones. Yep, clearly the sky is falling.

Nobody should buy it out. The developers would either go independent, be acquired by EA or Activision etc. or become part of Sony Worldwide studios is my guess.

The console and the xbox name would probably just die off if this ever happened.

This may have been the case back in the day, but not the case these days. Most of the games out will be multi generation platform with slight enhancements here or there.
