Direct X comes with a utility called Direct X diagnostic tool which allows you to test for compatibility. in video sound etc. To my delight, the Terratec DMX 6 Fire was 100% compatible with Direct X. It passed all tests.

And here we go with the Via sucks crap again...too bad..it only took a few posts for the Via crappers to start this thread on the way to a Via sucks argument...oh well...
ummm, cause they do 😀And here we go with the Via sucks crap again...too bad..it only took a few posts for the Via crappers to start this thread on the way to a Via sucks argument...oh well...

I only say that because over the past few years, I consistently have had more problems with Via products than anything else I have used. Sb problems, KX133 (pos), Via 4in1's crapping out system builds. Lets face it, Via is the 'Kmart' of the computing industry. Their products consistantly have problems, their support is suspect, and it only took Nvidia 1 try to match and in some cases exceed Via in its own hallmark industry, chipsets.
But i digress, this soundchip looks like it has some potential. Good luck with the drivers 😀😀😀

Every other couple of times I install the Via 4in1 drivers on anything but the latest incartion of the Via chipsets, they have various problems. Go take a look at the Via website, they offer a whole bunch of older versions of a set of drivers which is supposed to be backwards compatible with their products, I wonder why? I will admit, I have not used the latest 266a or kt333 incarnations of Via chipsets but I understand they have improved.4-in-1's crapping out systems?? PUHLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
Hmm, the reason I pointed out the KX133 specifically was its inability to support the slot a thunderbirds while the much older AMD 750 chipsets could. That was a joke.KX133. I had a KA7...worked just great.
Exactly, Via who has been manufacturing Chipsets for its main bussiness for years, is getting pushed by a company which designed its first chipset core logic.... Do you think Via could match Geforce 4 Ti4600 performance on their first try if they decided to make Video cards.KT333 is still faster than the nForce and KT266A was about the same speed as nForce.

Check out the price on this sucker, though--retail $499, online $289. The Envy24-based Audiophile2496 is found for retail $229, online around $179--probably since it doesn't have Terratec's breakout box.
The only serious advantage of Terratec is DirectX support... Midiman lacks it, and can't be used for games.
From what I remember, the KT133 was NO different than the KX133, except Via was kind enough to offer support for the new thunderbird proccessors, what a treat. So essentially, they fixed the KX133. Possibly, we could have used the brand new socket a athlons in slotkets in our older kx133 boards.Just curious, if not for Via's KT133 and KT133A chipsets, just what would we have used those brand new Socket 462 Athlon's in? An AMD 750 board? We would all have just used the 750 with classic Athlon's until the 760 came along?
