Just got the Artic Silver thermal compound. I am gonna use it with the FOP-32 i have on the CPU now. What is the best way to get the old pink $#it off the FOP and if any is still on the CPU? I just want to make sure i have it nice and clean. And when i put it on, how thin of a lyer should it really be?

Thanks

I scratched the thermal pad off the bottom of my FOB32 with my finger nail and then cleaned up with rubbing alcohol. Also used the rubbing alcohol on a Q-Tip on the cpu core.

As to the compound...not too much because force of clip would push it out - could make a bit of a mess. After I'd locked the clip I also jiggles (nice tech term) the heatsink a bit.

it's very important to properly clean the mating surfaces before applying a thin coat of arctic silver to the cpu.
the instructions suggest you not apply it with your bare finger pulp as oil & skin scales would contaminate the AS, making it less efficient at heat transferance!

You can get rid of the old stuff with Goo-gone, Butane or Vegetable Oil. if you use your nails, you run teh risk of scratching up hte heatsink(which is bad).
