Artic Silver III application too thin?

I just applied a very, very thin coating of ASIII to my AMD 1800+ cpu so thin I'm kinda wondering if it's too thin?

The thickness of the material is about as thick as a 1 ply tissue. Is this too thin?

I applied the ASIII to the HSF per the instructions @ their website then wiped off all of the remainder with a lint free cloth.

Is there any danger to applying this too thinly? I didn't want it oozing out the sides when I clamped the HSF which it did not.

Please help. I'm building my first computer this weekend and I'd hate to learn the hard way.

Thanks. :)

uwannawhat, DRS provided this link in another thread, I pass in on to you.
Nitty Gritty on AS
I read it as saying the thickness of a piece of standard paper, more or less depending on the perceived smoothness of the heat sink. Take a deep breath, yes I get nervous at this step too, ('bout faint when putting on "clip of death" HSF retainers), re-read the instructions, and believe you can do this. You can.

Thanks for the link Flatbroke, that's the website I used to learn how to apply the ASIII. I followed it to the tee. It felt kinda wierd removing the wax pad which was thicker than my application of ASIII, then after rubbing it into the HSF, removing all of it with a lint free cloth, leaving only my 1 ply thickness on the cpu.

Thanks for your quick response. :)

Sure np, been there, done that. I found this new info since last time I looked at that page.
Remember:
Once you have applied a thermal grease or melted a thermal pad onto a heatsink, it is impossible to remove all of the grease or pad from the microscopic valleys in the heatsink using standard cleaning chemicals and paper or fabric towels. Any subsequent thermal material will be applied over the remnants of the original material.

Me thinks I'm not going to give wax pad a try first then.
