I swapped my processor with a 2.8Ghz Prescott and a decent thermal take cooler. It is now running around 45 C at idle and jumps to around 52 C when playing games etc. I thought maybe (after reading a few posts on the right way to put AS on) it needed to be reapplied using a smaller amount. What I did notice is the compound never seems to setup, i.e. it stays in a liquid/melted state. Is this normal?

Edit: The motherboard is a Abit IC-7 in case you wanted to know.

Thanks for the info, by looking around I am guessing that those temps are not real bad, correct? I had a 2.6 Ghz northwood in it before and it did not run near this temp.

Your prescott is going to run noticeably warmer than the northwood you had in the system previously.
