Got the MX4 a while back on a very similar deal - what are the differences, which is better?

Any idea how long this stuff would last unopened? I don't have a current need, but if it's free, I'll get one for the future.

I bought this back in Dec, decent paste, didnt have any drop from previous Arctic Silver, which is 5 year old (opened 5 years ago) and still does a great job. It has gotten hard, a bit dried up but still usable if I mash (push it down and twist back n forth) the heat sink on the CPU real good...

MX2 is also a bit hard, i expected it to be a bit more softer, maybe it was sitting on a shelf for a while too...

I just used some MX-2 that has been sitting around for around a year (opened, used once) and it seemed a bit runny.
